Anyone rent from VRBO before?

I've been using VRBO for over a decade to rent vacation homes in various places around the United States. I've NEVER had a bad experience. Then again, I study all reviews and photos very carefully....I try to read between the lines. I also look at many places, and it starts to give me a good sense of what a fair price is for a particular location. I ignore completely any place that seems to be "too good of a deal" (on the theory that if it seems to be too good to be true, it probably is).

It's the only way to vacation, IMO. I do not like hotel rooms.

I could not agree more, especially when travelling with the whole family. We stayed in Puerto Rico this past summer. 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo for half the nightly cost of a hotel room. That was the second time we used VRBO. I find that just email chatting with the owners, you can get a sense of how they are. We have had nothing but great experiences.

We booked through VRBO for the first time recently for our February '13 WDW trip. So far, so good. We had immediate email contact from the owner verifying that our date request was available, had a Rental Agreement to pre-view, used our credit card for the security deposit and payments (final payment due at end of this month). Would probably not have rented from them if they didn't take credit cards. Carefully read reviews on VRBO and also resort reviews, looked at photos provided, etc. Owners are not from the area, but do work with a management company for any issues. Fingers crossed, things will continue to go smoothly. :)
