I couldn't decide where to put this so if it needs moved please feel free to do so and sorry...

Anyone rented from David Hocheiser? He has sent me info but I am unsure because he said he hasn't ever used a rental contract. Gave me his eBay user id. That did check out and a link for his work web page. Said he could get something together for a rental contract if I needed it. Makes me a little uneasy so I thought I would check and see if anyone here has successfully went through him. I did check deeds and there were a lot. Looks like a lot of grantors and then grantees kind of made my head spin.....

I don't know him and have never rented but I would not rent from anyone without a contract--even friends or family. Contracts are only important when things go wrong. It is a safeguard. I'd look elsewhere for points rental...

There are lots of reliable rentors right here on the DIS in the Rental area of the DVC section. Why take the risk?

The more I think about it, the more "right" I believe you are. I found him on another board very similar to set up as this one here and when he made the comment about the contract I just kind of cringed. We've rented many times from vrbo and homeaway and I have all but one time had a contract and luckily it went well but I was uneasy until we arrived. The points were $11 per point so I'm sure I can find that here too :).

DVC requires that every rental have a contract. Make sure there isn't any mention of a $95 fee when you check in. Walk away at that point.

You should use someone who has a lot of posts here on the DIS, uses a contract and has references from satisfied renters.

Thanks all.....this thread can be closed now and I do not believe I will be going with this person.

FYI, just know that whoever you deal with a contract helps you to understand exactly what you are paying for, and have an understanding of your DVC rental.

It will not protect you from someone intent on scamming you.

Until you check in that reservation belongs to the member.

You read my mind. The owner totally controls that contract.

i have never used any more than a simple email or paypal invoice specifying the terms of the rental...initial and sign when return with a check or payment at paypal signifies acceptance of terms.

when i rent confirmed ressies, i do not use a contract. i have the existing confirmation that i send to them. upon payment, i have a new confirmation in their names usually in less than 24 hours.

simple terms: no refunds, will work with you to try to rebook should plans change, no additional taxes or fees, guest is responsible for all costs/charges to the room, no smoking, in at 4 out at 10...that's about it.
