Remeber when the Knoa was call the Coral Isle in the poly? I just miss it ya know?

Yes! I do!!! We ended up grabbing a bite there after flying in for our honeymoon in 1987. We had the mozzerella cheese sticks and boy did those taste good!

The food was always good no matter what. I'm now trying to remember what O'Hana was before?

Kona replaced it in 1999. It was ok. The food was not as good as Kona and it was not as open as it is now.

Do you remember the South Seas Room buffet?

Aloha

I beleive it was called Papeete Bay Veranda. If I'm remembering correctly, it was a slightly upscale restaurant serving Pacific Rim Cuisine.

I remeber that... That was where O'Hana is now right? I also remember Tangora Terrace!!!

Ohhh, such wonderful memories!! And Capt Cook's was next to the then Ohau Longhouse!

I miss all those familair names and places too!

Thanks for the memories..

new memories about to be made next week at the Yacht Club - was to be the Poly :(

Changed from Monday to Wednesday arrival, but still must depart on Saturday!! :o( THREE days of fun?? I'll require another "fix" soon!

Can we have a moment of silence for the passing of the Tangaroa Terrace buffet breakfasts? (pause). Oh, well. Is there anyplace on Disney property that serves Belgian waffles with a variety of toppings like they did at that restaurant? Why, oh why does Disney try to fix what isn't broken?

Now, that's a question I'd like answered as well..

Why does Disney think it needs to fix what isn't broken?? So much unecessary change and NOT for the better all over the World...

So much to do and see that is can be exhausting both financially and emotionally for a family to plan and visit. Simpler was better:earsgirl:

Now, I'm only 26 and I remember when Kona Cafe was the Coral Isle Cafe...and Captain Cooks...but....

...does anyone remember when it was called "The Barefoot Bar"?

The shop along side wasn't there and you entered from the area where you now enter the shopping area. It was all green and yellow. I couldn't have been more than 5 but I remember it all like it was yesterday...

...oh and they used to have that big play area...treehouse like thing right outside too...Man, I loved playing in there!

Okay, back to reality...checkbook balancing, budgeting, ugh!

YES!! I remember and I did not even realize it's no longer called the Barefoot Bar because I still think of it that way!!

Anyone remember when these changes went into effect?

I must have been at another Polynesian. I never remember Captain Cook’s over near Tokelau (Oahu back then) and the barefoot bar was over near the old pool (the new bar is still called the Barefoot Bar) and the playground was over next to Hawaii past the pool.

BaciBecky. There was a snack place over near Oahu but it was not Captain Cook’s. It was called Snack Isle. Captain Cooks came in around the time Tahiti and Rapa Nui were built.

Anyone remember the putting green that was where the East Pool (aka quiet pool) is now?

Aloha

Steve

I must have misdread the other post about Barefoot Bar - I thought the name was changed and that's all I was thinking of..but as for Capt Cook's - yep, in the 80's it was at the end of Ohau, had a screen door (honestly!). My kids loved it there... we were in Ohau staying on what is now the Tahiti side - nothing else in site and no path to TTC...you could walk, but it was a long way around and we would wonder why they did not make a walking path!!

When I stayed at the then new Pago Pago I cannot remember if Capt Cook's had moved. Actually, when I booked my stay this time one of the reasons I requested Tokelau was to be near Capt Cook's..and then I rememberd it had moved!!! I changed my request, to try some place new, to Figi, marina view.

Unfortunately, I am not going to be staying at the Poly this visit after all - which has been cut short by two days due to Jeanne. We are celebrating my friend's birthday so I thought it only fair to stay at her fav resort - YC. Another great resort, but it's the Poly for me for sure next visit though!
<sigh> I was already enjoying the view from Figi in my dreams!!

Steve, your site will hold me over until next time! Thanks for all the work you put into it with updaes and photos. By the way, does Tahiti have sinks outside the bathroom?

Christine

If so, disregard, but asking, "Remember when...?" reminded of The Top of the World at the CR....Beef Wellington on the Breakfast Brunch. Umm, slobber slobber.

Hmmm, Snack Isle...Okay I remember now..but it was there when we first stayed at the Poly in March of '82? No, no, we did not stay in Ohau that time we were on the other side of the GCH! But then the next summer we stayed in Ohau and I *thought* it was there then - 2 adults and 3 kids went over there quite a lot. Oh...don't tell me the memory is going????

Then the next 2 trips were Pago Pago.

Thanks, Steve..keep jogging this 'ole memory, please!

Since my son died I do not always remember things as I once did... please bear with me!
Thanks!
Christine

Oh! I LOVED Top of the World - the best breakfast Buffets there..and first thing in the a.m. you could see the beautifully groomed beach below. They made Mickey pancakes to order! AND do you remember the Top of The World Dinner show???

Here you go. This should bring back memories. This is a map from the early 80's before 85 when Tahiti and Rapa Nui were built and Tokelau (Oahu) was new.

Anyone remember when multiday passports were new and they were phasing out the tkts (have forgotten what those were called). The "mulit day"3 day passport was pink (I'm looking at it right now), the castle was in a circle in the middle pale purple for adults, yellow for kids under 12, had a string and a pin on it , there was only the MK so on the back there was a box to stamp for a day at River Country and Discovery Island was included- $23.25 for a child and $31.50 for an adult!

Pirates Point Excursion? Contemporary Resort Cinema for $1??

Empress Lily Character Breakfast - $22 for 3!! And last, but not least, a night in the Cont Garden Wing was $75 before tx!!!!

Steve, thank you! Not only does the map bring back memories, but the map itsself! Remember when a Disney Resort reservation brought a magazine type book with loads of info and a map of each resort with the longhouses named?

Okay,here come the tears!! ;)

Thanks so much....very special.

Christine
