Does anyone recommend using a taxi to get to the WDW parks from offsite? I guess in our family's case we would have to request a taxi van. We may be shaking up our vacation plans and staying offsite in a condo and only doing two days in the WDW parks. So in our case we wouldn't need to get to the parks everyday. We may use the Florida Tours company for roundtrip airport transportation since they provide a courtesy grocery store stop. We will be flying in from Pennsylvania and the rental rates for a mini van (we can't fit into anything smaller)are looking extremely high for our budget and we may be staying in a condo where transportation to the parks isn't offered. Thank you.

I only take a cab if I'm planning on a second glass of wine---a car is just too valuable, and except for a very few spots, the Orlando tourist areas just aren't very pedestrian-friendly in terms of getting to shops, restaurants, etc. It's a town in which you generally want a car.

If you have two different people of "driving age", it might actually work out to get two cars, rather than one minivan, depending on how things are pricing out.

Edited to add: If you *really* get stuck, it might also work out to be less expensive to fly to a different, but still nearby, airport in terms of air fare + rental car costs. You'd have a longer drive, but that may be worth it.

Being trapped in a condo with no transportation sounds miserable to me. Figure $150 round trip for the airport service then $30 one way unless your condo is super close, so $60 dollars a day. Do you not plan on leaving the condo otherwise? What if you run out of milk? or want to go get an ice cream cone one night. Even with just your two WDW days and airport transport you are looking at $270 without a single other trip away from the condo.

I have to agree with the PPs. I shudder at the prospects of staying off site without a rental car.:scared1: Add up the costs of taxis to and from airport, parks, grocery (sorry, but you are inevitably going to need an extra trip somewhere for some type of supplies during your stay). Orlando is not the kind of place where you can hope to easily walk to any destination. Transportation costs are a major factor in any vacation budget and must be realistically taken into account. I strongly suggest that you hit the internet one more time and try to find a discount on a rental van or even 2 compact cars.

good luck

Thank you for all your honest replies. If we can't get a practical cost on a mini van rental then we will consider renting two compact or economy size cars.

Do you belong to BJ's? Dollar often has great weekly rates with the BJ's promo code on minivans (@ $295.00/wk plus taxes and fees).
Speaking of Dollar and Thrifty as well, I got a great rate on my Sept rental today. Plug in all of your info, look at the rates offered, then click on the city specials.
