Anyone purchased the travel insurance for points-vacation before?

I got an exchange with II for a week in Cancun, and I am thinking about purchasing travel insurance for this vacation. She said that based on the amount of points, that the insurance would cost me about $35 for the booking. I asked her if something would happen and I couldn't go on the trip for one of their covered reasons, would I get the points back or cash. She said that they would send me a check. However, when I asked her what the points are valued at, she could not tell me this.

Has anyone purchased this insurance before (it's through Travel Guard), and if so, do you have any idea what the reimbursement value is per point?

It's been mentioned here that you get $5 per point. Even at that, we did buy the insurace once, thank heavens, we didn't need it!

I understand that for a "covered" reason such as medical, say you cancel 1 day prior to your trip for a medical reason..

I understood that even if you have purchased the insurance, you would not get the $5 per point plus the ability to re-book the trip...That told me that you could get EITHER OR.........

So here's the scenario....Lets say you have a trip booked for July 8th for 150 points and within 2 days you have a medical reason to prevent you from travel..Your points go into "holding" and you have a dec use yr...You have till November 30th to use points..Lets say you just can't take the trip by Nov.30th..You have the opportunity to file a claim for $750..I guess you could also try to "rent" your points by Nov.30th...Undoubedtly, you could probably get approximately $5 more per point by "renting"....

We insured our points that we used for a DCL cruise last summer 'cuz it was a lot of points and we were sailing during hurricane season.
