Anyone purchased from Ritzauctions or worked at Ritz Camera?

I hope this "ebay" question is ok....

Ritz Camera sells products on ebay as "ritzauctions" - this information is printed on their store catalog. They sell some new items, but mostly their floor models.

I've been looking at a digital camera and they have a few of them on ebay and they're going at a pretty good deal. But, they were floor models and "may have scatches, etc".

My question is.... has anyone purchased a floor model from ritz camera? How was the condition?

Has anyone worked at Ritz? It seems to me that their floor models are always in pretty good shape, but are they typically? Do they usually take care of their floor models or are they "abused" like at Best Buy/Circuit City type places?

It's VERY tempting to purchase a camera from them to save the money (we're talking about $100 less than cheapest on-line store and $200 less than Ritz retail), but I like to know what I'm in for before I go that way. I don't mind buying "used", but "gently used" is preferred!!!

Thanks for any help you can pass on.

I actually did buy a camera from them online, I can't remember if it was through ebay or their website. I was very pleased with the camera, no problems.

The Ritzs I have gone to have the sample cameras under a glass case.

The sales person gets it out of the case to show you.

I would think that these would not get touched as much as Best Buy

that the manufacturer's one year warrantee may not apply because it is not techically new. Do they have to report the numbers on the warantee card as being used as a floor model and if so does that void the manufacturer's warantee? Each camera/warantee is labeled with an identifying number so the manufacturer can track whether or not it was sold through proper channels. If the manufacturer feels it was not sold properly or you bought it in 'as-is' condition as a floor model they are not obligated to honor that warantee.

I just went through this and wound up purchasing my new digital (canon proshot1) through a reputable canon dealer to avoid situations like this. Canon is very picky about what they will and won't honor on warantees. Not sure if the manufacturer you're looking at is the same way.

Anyhow, I made this decision after a LOT of research into how warantee issues are handled by the company and you might want to consider that as well. I'd rather pay the extra money now than to have something silly break and not be able to use my warantee. also, ask Ritz if they will offer you an additional warantee on the camera, if they won't, I'd look elsewhere.

I was able to get my camera for $300 less than it sells retail from a dealer on ebay. I am extremely satisfied and happy with my purchase, this camera is amazing and the experience was a positive one. If you'd like, PM me with what camera you are looking at and I will see if it shows up on any of my lists of certified camera dealers that I checked out on ebay. I did 3 months of research before I bought this, no need for you to do the same, I have it all saved on my computer :)

Not sure what camera you're looking for, but I just bought a canon digital rebel online from www.buydig.com. The shipping was SUPER fast (like 3 days). I got the camera for $789 which included $18.00 shipping. This was more than $200 off the msrp. It was brand new, and included the manufacturers warranty. If you haven't purchased already, you might want to give them a try!
