curious - did disney continue to have staff serve at buffets and drink stations due to last weeks' higher incidence of flu-like symptoms? we are sailing sunday and wondering how the situation is being handled. I would think they did a major sanitation job, perhaps delayed boarding, and then business as usual. I have to admit i added a roll of lysol disinfectant wipes to my suitcase today.

While I am not onboard now, I do not believe that you need to carry a roll of Lysol wipes with you. We just cruised in March and will be back on in 2 weeks. Sanitary wipes are everywhere. They hand them to you before entering restaurants and they are sitting beside all of the quick service places. They heighten the sanitation when there is an outbreak by limiting guest contact with the food. Otherwise, I believe they are very sanitary.

Hope this helps allieviate any fears you may have.

A friend was on the Magic last week and it was food poisoning from a local restaurant. Many people ate at the same place and they all got sick. Because of the illness the Magic went on high alert.

So be careful of were you eat!

i was thinking lysol wipes for when we return to room. railings, door handles, elevator buttons, the pens i use to buy all those necessary drinks of the day... all are places to pick up bugs on your hands! Just wondering how long disney keeps the "no touch" policy after an occurance of illness. good to know whatever caused it did NOT come from the ship!

They monitor this on a daily basis. On our 12/9/06 cruise it began with the CMs serving everything at the buffet and drink station. They also did not permit pin trading during this time. On Tuesday the Captain decided that there was no longer a problem and things were back to "normal".

I was on the cruise last week and it was not food poisoning that made everyone sick. There was a bug/flu going around the ship. Not sure where it came from but it was not fun. My DH got it on Saturday and was in the cabin all day. Not all the symptoms were the same. Some had the stomach flu, some had the other end problems, and others talked about sore throats. One lady heard a cast member say that over 400 people had come down with something. They were wiping down/sanitizing the ship starting on Thursday and it continued until we got to port. This was not food poisoning because people were coming down with it on different days.

are they really using Lysol wipes to wipe hands before eating? I cannot imagine putting something like that on my hands (or my kids) heck, I don't even use the stuff in my house it smells so bad.

yeah, each time you enter a restaurant they hand you a wipe

I don't *think* they are Lysol wipes. Just a hand sanitizing wipe. It's not lysol pine-scented or anything like that! :rotfl:

It should be a sanitary hand wipe, similar to Germ-X or something. A Lysol wipe would be for surfaces.

I looked at the ingredients on the hand wipe container and they are alcohol wipes...no other crazy antibacterial chemicals, just good ol' alcohol to kill the germies...

I am surprised DCL had an outbreak - they are so diligent about cleaning!!

Anyway, we travel on all cruises with a small can of Lysol. When I first arrive, I spray everything - and I mean everything. The entire bathroom/toilet area, closet, all handles, light switches, drawers etc...

Then I open the door to the veranda and air out the room.

I also bring anti-bacterial hand soap. Surprisingly, the soap in the bathroom is not anti-bacterial, and I know how people wash (or don't wash) their hands!

What a shame so many folks lost days on the ship!!!:sad1:
