I am debating whether to wait to see what kind of specials will be out for Black Friday or just start purchasing now. In the past years I have gotten some great deals but last year I wasn't too lucky. Any thoughts? Anyone completed any shopping yet?

Yes I am! How do you find out what some stores will be offering?

Yes! My best friend and I make a tradition out of it. We act like commandos and plan our route by looking at the paper on Thanksgiving.
Funny story though, last year, both of us forgot to go get a paper so Thanksgiving night after dinner we were driving around all over the place looking for one and when we were on the way back to my house disappointed, we were driving through my neighborhood and I saw that several houses had papers in their front lawn because the people were out of town. So, we actually did this; we took a paper, then put the 50 cents in the person's mailbox! I figured, well, they are out of town, so they will miss the sale anyway!

:wave2: ME ME ME!!! I love shopping on Black Friday....BUT the past few years I have had to work:mad: So many people want to settle on their houses the day after Thanksgiving:mad:  And my DH works for Staples and he normally has to work the open shift, but this year he closes....so maybe I can run out for a few hours before work.

There is a message board on AOL that I read that people from time to time will post the Black Friday sales sometime in November:hyper:

If you have your heart set on certain things I'd buy them now. Then if the price is better on Black Friday and the item is available you can ask the store for a price adjustment or return the 1st purchase.

 OH yeah...I remember the controversy last year. Stores were upset that people were posting the list of specials like a week or two before.

I remember that happening last year too. All the freebie sights had lists for just about everywhere.

We usually go to our local McRaes, then Pennys then Stein-Mart...you couldn't PAY ME to tackle Wal-Mart.

Since we will be at Disney this year during December THAT will be our Christmas so I won't be fighting them this year like I have in the past....I'll go out just for fun and to try and win the Doorbusters.

I won't be doing too much planning this year because we'll be at WDW! :jumping2:

I may go to the outlets that day, I hate to go before Thanksgiving since I'd rather be at the parks when they arent' crowded. I don't mind crowds shopping as much as i mind crowds in the parks !

I may brave a few places to get DBF's presents(a dvd and something else)

We will be at the IL's and they live in a small town. There isn't much there except Wal-mart. I don't think I even WANT to go there! :crowded:

My dd is ready. Dummy me brought her to her first BF last year. She loved the chaos.

My nephew and I have had a long tradition of spending BF together. We get to the mall when it opens, find any freebies, then buy our own Christmas presents. That is our only goal for the day. Some times we are gone for an hour, some times all day. Waiting in long lines gives me an awesome chance to catch up with all the details of his life. Once we find what we want, we grab take-out, go home, eat, and wrap our gifts, labelling them - To Me, From Me. He is now 16 and has already reminded me to make sure I tell my boss I will not be working that day. We also hit the mall the morning after Christmas. We know the lines are long and the people are crazy, but it gives us something to laugh about. And, we are sure that we will get one gift that we absolutely love!

I shop occasionally on that day - but what I really want to know is...Why the heck is it called Black Friday? The only time I've ever heard that is here on the boards and I just don't get it.

Retail Employees call it Black Friday because it is traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year, hence the most stressful work day of the year.

My mom and I always go out on Black Friday. We usually hit Wal-Mart, Target, KB Toys, Toys R Us, Best Buy and Penneys---all before 10:30 a.m.

Then we go out for breakfast.

I'm not sure about this but don't they also call it Black Friday because it often can take a business from running in the red into the black, from losing money to making a profit.

I really could use some decent bargains this year so (assuming I can go) I'll be out there with the others. Even at Wal-Mart if they have good deals.

What is black Friday?

Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Stores begin to open at 5 am or 6 am with sale prices that may only be available for 2-4 hours in the morning. The sale prices are pretty good, therefore you may have people standing outside the stores beginning at 3 am to get in the store first to get the hot toy or hot gift item for the holidays. The literally run in the stores in all directions at opening. Stores are also open later than normal.

As mentioned before it is called Black Friday because of all the sales generated that day, it takes the store from working in the red (loss of money) to the black (making a profit) on their accounting books.

Ill be there of course. I love it!
Im done with the kids stuff for the most part but I can always stock up for next year! :)
