I bought the AP through DVC for a trip this summer and thought I might try to add a small trip over the Christmas-New Years holiday week at the end of this year. Its been a while that I've booked a cash room, but OMG the prices are so high for any hotel room- I didnt realize the prices have hit $500-700/night-
I know its the holiday week, but WOW !

Not sure if I will pursue it. It would be hard to justify those prices...

I'm one of those people who checks the cash rates after I book my DVC vacation. For our next trip to BLT for a lakeview studio in July the room only rate is $3,473:crazy2:

I'm staying in a BLT lake view studio next month, rack rate is $519 plus tax. Crazy! Thank goodness for DVC!

I almost always book a night before or after our DVC stay using the AP discount. However we never travel during peak times and I don't book DVC accommodations.

We book either moderate or Disney deluxe.

Just stayed at SSR this past weekend in a studio at Congress Park with a great view of DTD at an annual pass rate of $239 per night. We stayed for 3 nights and just booked that rate one day ahead of time on-line at the annual pass website. We actually booked 2 nights originally, but we went to the check-in area on day 2 to add another night. No problem. Same annual pass rate & didn't have to change rooms.

yes the prices have been very high the last two years.

would try Pop - but wait until at least Oct - then go see what you can find on the annual pass site.

other wise look for discounts here

We are planning a trip for that week as well, right before our APs expire, and will most likely rent an offsite house. We have gone into borrowing mode and want to take a year off from using our DVC points so that we have more points available the following year. Paying WDW rack rates over the holiday week is not an option - much more than I am willing to pay for a hotel room! I considered renting points, but even that is quite expensive that week for a 2BR. Our payoff for staying off site and saving money on lodging is a longer trip than we usually can book with points.

Now if you travel at the right time you can get some good discounts at the WDW resorts with AP rates and general public rates. We were just at WDW for New Year's and stayed at the Contemporary for two nights after a five night stay at OKW. I got an AP discount, plus it was value season pricing. We did splurge and stay club level, so it was still more per night than we'd normally pay for a hotel room, but we thought it was worth doing as a special once in a while treat.

I did it twice last year because I used all of my points for a 2 bedroom OV at Aulani plus one week at WDW. My two cash trips were GF RPC and BWI Inkeepers Club. If I'm going to pay cash, I'm staying club level with decent discounts.

So you were able to stay during the busy week and get an AP discount?:confused3
I didn't think there would be any discounts during Christmas-New Year's week.

I only stay on points, and I don't like the moderate hotels! I go to Disney/Orlando 4 to 5 times a year, I'm not paying rack rates even with a DVC discount, too steep! I pay cash when I vacation elsewhere!

We added on one night at POR in October at the start of our trip. We got the AP rate for $137 per night.

I've booked a non-DVC trip with my 19 y/o dd in late May/early June. Man.....got ASMusic for $88 a night, but we really want to stay in AoA/LM room, so booked our last two nights there. $173 for Sat night and $148 for Sunday night!!! Seriously??? I could probably get a moderate for that!! But, dd really wants to stay in that stupid LM room!!

I'm guessing that I will not be able to score a room discount for any days in the Christmas to New Year's week.

I really want to go that week but don't see myself paying the rack rate for a room...

Paid around $85 a night at pop the week of veterans day with an AP discount

For a holiday week, your best bet may be to rent points. Timeshare store rents for $12 per point which includes tax i believe.

We stayed at WL from Jan. 5-11th through CRO.

I had a conference in Orlando, and a good excuse to go to WDW. We had 12 points available to borrow, and could borrow more on February 1st.

We also stayed at POP in January 2012.

Those APs make our 100 points run a little thin, but those AP rates help.

No, our stay at OKW began Dec 30th and we stayed there five nights on points. Value season pricing and discounts did not begin until Jan. 2nd. We stayed at CR Jan 4th and 5th, that is how we got a good rate and discount. This year our stay is going to be completely within WDW peak pricing dates. I know we won't be willing to pay those rates, so we're going to book offsite. Discounts the busiest weeks of the year (surrounding Easter and between Christmas and New Year's) are rare.
