Anyone partake in DHS rope drop (ToT and RnRC) recently?

The last time we visited DHS (October 2017) we managed to rope drop both ToT and RnRC before the lines exceed 45 minutes. Actually, we were lucky because both rides proceeded to go down shortly thereafter and were still down by the time we left mid-day. For those who have been recently, is it safe to assume that you will be able to rope drop one or the other before long waits (but not both), especially with ToT running at limited capacity? I’ve noticed that morning fastpasses are going fast for ToT and RnRc. We have a short trip planned, so I am wondering if we should abandon rope dropping HS and just get afternoon/ evening fastpasses. My kids are only interested in RnRC, ToT, and TSMM anyways. I was hoping to rope drop so they could ride RnRC and ToT twice (one stand by and one with fastpass), but this looks unlikely. Thoughts? Should add this would be a non-EMH am.

Hollywood Studios usually opens earlier than the published time due to toy story land. If you will arrive at the gate line around 45 minutes before the published opening time, you will be able to ride both rocking coaster and TOT with h minimal wait. Most everyone is gunning for slinky dog. About twoo weeks ago they let the crowd in15 minutes before the published opening and I think that has been pretty consistent lately.

I’ll also add that we actually went to TSMM first, rode it, then alien saucers, then still rode RNR and TOT with minimal wait.

It is true they open earlier then posted. However, on Tuesday, June 4, they only opened TSL early. They walked the rest of us down the “street” towards TOT and RNR and held us until exactly 9:00. It was a bummer.

We rope dropped Memorial Day weekend and ToT was a mess! We weren’t able to get an AM FP which is why we planned to hit it first thing before our RnR FP. We went directly there but the line was crazy and we hopped out of it after 20 minutes. At 8:55 MDE showed 5 minute wait, and by 9:00 it was posting 95minutes, I believe. This is bc of only half the ride operating while they work on it. Also remembered, SDD was down at RD and all morning, which may have pushed the waits up too.

Thanks for everyone’s helpful insights. With the limited capacity of ToT and the variation of opening times, I think we will skip rope drop and just get fastpasses for later in the day since we are not doing SDD.

this was our plan 2 weeks ago and worked very smothly.
The line to SDD was 90 minutes very quickly, but AS2 and TSMM were short for the first 20 minutes or so.

Sorry to pirate your thread, but does anyone know when the ToT half-refurb will be finished? It kind of stinks that it's not listed as a refurb since it's half open but still causes a mess since it's half closed. lol

We rope dropped it Wednesday, June 5- they let us down the street but didn’t drop the rope until 9:00 exactly. Andddd- told us about 10 min before that RNR was going to be closed- which was too late to hop in the Toy story madness. We got on TOT pretty quickly but once we got off- it was an insane wait. So it was a bummer for us.
We rope dropped Slinky Dog Monday, June 3- we were inside the park waiting about 45 min before opening- they let us in about 15 before 9 and we waited 15 minutes to ride. Then rode alien saucers with a short wait

We were also in that mess! My hope for a 20 min rope drop for ToT turned into 45 mins -
I have been watching they wait times all last week and it seems like TOT wait times pick up faster now during the referb- my suggestion would be to rope drop TOT first and then do RnR and also have FP for the AM for a 2nd ride

Just don't get too hung up on ToT at any time. It's really limping along. It was down totally during our DAH and at parking opening on 6/2.
At DAH they finally opened 1 of the 2 operating elevators the final 30 min, to give some a chance. Talk about S.L.O.W.

No, they haven't announced when it will be done

This is good advice. I think we’ll count ourselves lucky if we get to ride ToT at all during our trip. We’ll try for late day fastpasses at RnRC, ToT, and TSM and not sweat it if ToT is down.

Oh man Im hoping this improves before mid-August. We are doing EMM at HS and were planning to hop over to ToT at RD because I don't know if I will be able to get FP for it. And we are not spending the whole day at HS just to wait for an afternoon FP for ToT. Its my least favorite park and we finish everything we want to do in a half day. I guess Ill see how I do on FP day this week. :crazy2:

I have been keeping an eye on the fastpass situation for our mid-August trip. I notice the morning ToT fastpasses would likely be gone by the time I have to book for our short trip. If you are booking for 60+3 or later, I think you will be fine. I was trying for 60+1, and that looks very unlikely.

Oh man I was looking for 60+1 also. Bummer...

We rope dropped yesterday. They did let us in early. We went to RnR first and walked straight on. They didn’t even make us watch the video. We were hoping to ToT after but the wait was almost an hour that fast! Instead we went to toy story since TSMM and aliens were 30 min waits.

I was just there Wednesday morning before driving back to Kansas City. I had Fast passes for R and R coaster and TSM. The only reason that I did go was the email stating that R and R coaster was down and I had a multiple experience FP. It wasn’t really worth much, as I wanted to ride Tower of Terror and not Star Tours or any of the stage shows. As I’m not a big Star Wars fan, I won’t be going to Hollywood Studios for a year or two.
