We are looking to purchase this after I saw it in the Target ad this weekend ($500 + $150 Target GC with purchase). After researching, I found that Amazon has it for $349.

It is worth it?

We need to get a new vaccum regardless, and am tempted to get a Dyson, but are they that much better? We had new carpet upstairs so I want to make sure that it stays soft and "fluffy" when I vaccum and not pressed down.

Any other alternatives?

Thanks!!!!

Bump... I am thinking of getting this, too, and would love some reviews!

I got an animal back in January and love it. It destroys my old vacuum LOL espeically on the dog hair.

I own 2 Dyson & this particular model too (gave it to my son) I love my dysons, but this one is much smaller than regular one, and the cord is much shorter (which drove me CRAZY, having to re-plug it in after every room)- I did not like it at all - which is why I gave it to my son & his wife, they have an smaller apartment and figured it might be better for them. The cup is also much smaller & I did not like the "Ball" technology at all, thought it was much more difficult to manuver, it seemed to have a mind of it's own. I wouldn't recommend it, I like the standard Dysons better, I have the Animal (purple one) and the Yellow one (don't know which one that is)- love them, but they do eventually decrease in their suction- but I also owned a Syberian Husky that shedded like mad!!

I love my dyson. As long as you keep the filters clean it can handle a 2yr old, a 7 month old , a husky, a sheba inu , english beagle like a champ.

I also use the Zorby stuff in between carpet cleaning to "freshen up" the carpet.

I bought the Dyson Animal a couple of years ago for about $500 with a 20% off coupon at Linens and Things and love it. I was reluctant to spend that much money on a vacuum, but I really like the way the handle turns into a hand-held extension, the fact that I do not have to buy bags (although it can be a bit messy emptying the container) and - most important - the fact that the suction is still very good. I can't speak to the particular version you are considering but I can say that this is one purchase I don't regret.

The Dyson is a love it or hate it machine. The people who love them really love them and the people who hate them sell them, so look in yard sales, Craigslist and other local sources before you spring for one at full price. We got our DC07 Animal (the purple one) with extra attachments for $20. My next-door neighbor sold his yellow one for $35 and it was practically brand new. If you can't find one cheap see if a neighbor or friend has one and ask to borrow it. Don't spend that kind of money based on someone else's opinion.

BTW we love ours on level surfaces but we bought a smaller, lighter vacuum to do the stairs with. Lugging that Dyson around isn't worth it except for the ocassional deep clean.

Thanks for all of the replies. I didn't realize this was a smaller one. Our current vaccum has a really long cord so I just plug it into the hallway and can do three bedrooms and the hallway without any problems.

Are there other vaccums that are really good, but don't have the hefty price tag?

I have the DC28 Animal and love it!! Picked it up brand new and sealed off craigslist for $300. There are definitely some great deals on new Dysons on craigslist out there, if you live near a metropolitan area and can afford to be a little patient. Good luck with your vac choice.

I just bought the dyson animal maybe 4-5 months ago. I absolutly love it!!! I had a kenmore progressive that I had for 12 years before getting this vacuum which I always like however, love my dyson.
