How many points did you get at each resort? I noticed you've been doing lots of research on these boards. I always hear people say that they wish they bought more, I'm still trying to decide which amount would be sufficient for my family.
Hello,
We are waiting on 420 pts. at BWV (two contracts from the same owner 200 + 220); and 200 pts at BCV that we just are sending in.
Yes...thanks for noticing. I am doing a lot of research on these boards. I think everyone has different needs for how they get points.
Here are my thoughts in relation to my family:
We have three boys ages 6, 4, and 1. We just got back from a trip in February where we stayed at the Polynesian. We never even approached the
DVC counter and it wasn't until I got home that I somehow found this board. I started out thinking WLV was right for us. But then I thought we wanted the ability to book a three bedroom villa every few years to go with my best friends family. There are so few of them that I knew I needed either SSR, BWV, or OKW. They all look pretty good, but knowing my family, they love action and entertainment. When we stayed at the Polynesian it was very quiet at night which was nice, but I think we will really like BWV. We should hear something this week from Disney. I hope it will be good news!
I have not seen any of these resorts...but I have looked at all the pictures I can find online.
After reading and looking at BCV, and especially seeing the shipwreck slide and kiddie pool at Stormalong Bay at BCV, I just knew my boys would love it so much!!! They are crazy about anything pirates...this will be a huge hit. Plus the rooms look nicer than BWV to me. So we just got a contract on 200 pts at BCV. It happened to be the same use year as the other contracts, so it was perfect.
So anyway...if Disney doesn't exercise ROFR, we will have 620 pts. It seems like a lot, but we primarily will be using two bedrooms and occasionally the three bedroom villa at the BWV. And, the way I figure it, we can rent or transfer points we don't use. So I really don't see how you can lose with the DVC.
One thing I would definitely recommend not doing is financing through Disney. Their finance rates (I think 9 or 10%) is outrageous! It is almost like they are taking advantage of people.
If you need to finance, I would try another way. We will NOT be financing...we are just biting the bullet and going for it.
Wish me luck on these 620 points!!!!
My advice to finding out the right amount of points is to look at the
point chart. What type of room will you usually stay in? One or two bedroom or studio? When will you go? How often will you go? Do you think your needs will change in ten years? Figure all that out and then get an idea of what you need. We started thinking we needed 350 for a one week stay in a two bedroom in the summertime. Then we talked about going during Thanksgiving; and then the 3 bedroom option requires more points.
Good luck!
Good luck in your decision! Have a wonderful day!
