anyone own a 2004 jeep?

I have a 2004 jeep cherokee and i believe its supposed to automatically kick into 4 wheel drive in snow or if its slippery but i'm not positive. does anyone know?

I don't know, but I'll give this a bump for you. I had a 2000 Cherokee, and it certainly didn't have that.......

My 1999 Cherokee doesnt do that either. However, my DH's Expedition does.

Mine doesn't. I double checked with my husband (car guy) and he said nope. But maybe yours does.

It's weird b/c when I brought the car the dealer said that it would kick into gear....but I had a pick up truck in the past and had to manually put it in 4 wheel drive and you felt and heard it was in 4 wheel drive....but I had the jeep since last year and when I drove in the snow even though it didn't skid I never felt like I was in 4 wheel drive. There is a 4 low gear on the stick shift thing but I figured that was only for when you are like stuck in mud...not to drive at 30 miles an hour in snow......oh I'm so confused-lol

You have a Grand Cherokee, correct?

We had a 2001 Cherokee and it didn't do this.

Can you look up the owner's manual online? That might give you some insight.

What else is on the transfer case indicator? just 4lo? I'm going to guess you have an autotrac 4 wheel drive, which in case means when your right rear tire sense's the slip, all 4 kick in, and then when you no longer need the 4 tires with the same "power" it kicks back into basically 2 wheel.

Or you could have a all-wheel drive, but in that case, you wouldnt have 4 lo. It would just always be in all wheel drive, which is different than 4 wheel drive.

Or you could have a 4 wheel drive jeep thats only in 2 wheel until you put it in 4 wheel.

I have a 2004 wrangler. It has a second shift to move into 4x4. However, check your driver's side sun visor, sometimes the directions for 4x4 driving are on the underside of the visor. And there's always the owner's manual.....
