and actually gotten a call saying an opening is available for you? How long did you have to wait for that call? I am going to WDW in the middle of OCt. and have a ressie for OKW studio. We'd really like to stay at either BWV or VWL. What do you think our chances are. We'd be staying Sun- Thurs. in a studio. This is my first time using our DVC points so I am TOTALLY out of the loop on this one!

There have been many threads about this. The waitlists are fairly successful ( I would guesstimate about 75-85% from personal experience and posting for non-holidays).

Are you listed day by day or whole stay? Day by day tends to come through quicker.

You may not hear anything until mid-August or Sept. there are always some cancellations just outside the 30 day window.

Good luck
Sandy

Hey there - I have waitlisted for a Boardwalk standard view one bedroom 3 or 4 times and have always gotten it. So far we've waitlisted in September, October and May. Not sure about studios but I'd guess there's a pretty good chance for you.

Hi karebear,

We went on the waitlist to change our OKW ressie from a 1bdrm to a 2 bdrm for Nov 29-Dec 6th around the 2nd week of May and about the 5th of June we got the 2bdrm for all nights and the 1st 2 weeks of december are very busy times for DVC - So I'm going to say don't give up hope - I think you have a good shot at the waitlist coming through!:D

if you are on the automatic confirmation - then you won't get a phone call - DVC MS just makes the reservation and you get a confirmation in the mail (like you do regularly).

the automatic confirmation is best because they don't have to call you and ask your permission - in that time the room could go to someone else.

My understanding is the room is on "hold for you" (i.e. unavailable for booking). My messages have always stated clearly, "please call back before 5pm on Wednesday or this will be released back into inventory".

I often do the phone call as I may be waitlisted for multiple places or want to cancel something so I don't end up borrowing too many points.

If someone knows for sure otherwise can you please help.

Sandy

I'm going crazy wondering too! I try to find excuses or reasons to call MS to check but I can never think of any!

I'm waiting on Nov 30/Dec 1 at the BWV for a 2 bedroom SV. I've been waitlisted since a week after the 11 month window; at 11 months, I booked a one-bedroom SV and then we invited my BIL and his family.

I've already got Dec 2 thru Dec 5 through waitlist on the 2 bedroom as a group because I don't want to get Nov 30 and then never get Dec 1! It's also the automatic kind.

My BIL's wife keeps asking me if I think it will come through!

I also decided, to get on the waitlist for a studio for those 2 nights we're missing for my BIL that way my BIL and his family will have a DVC room to stay in even if the 2 bedroom doesn't work out for those 2 nights...they are booked at All Star for now! I did this waitlist as a phone call. Not sure why I decided that??

What are my chances for these 2 very popular nights for either the studio or the 2 bedroom?? I'm going crazy!

Does anyone have any experience with a wait list at Hilton Head?

We've tried a waitlist at Hilton Head 6 months out for two years running and never got in. We were trying for a 1 bedroom, 1 week stay anytime from June 10 through August 15.

We were waitlisted for BWV from Nov 30th to Dec 13th and went day by day and on the 3rd day I called back and we were no longer waitlisted we had our ressie. this was at the 7 month window just in May. This was for a 2 bedroom also

Well, this is discouraging on how the waitlist works.

I've been on the waitlist since almost the 11 month window for 2 of your nights (nov 30 - Dec 1) for the 2-bedroom SV. I'm still waiting. This doesn't make any sense to me.

Was yours a standard view as well? If so, I've got a good mind to call MS and ask how this could be possible??

I'm very sad now.:(

Ok- here's the deal.

I just called MS to ask about waitlisting and this is whati endxed up doing. I was wait listed for a studio at either VWL or BWV for Oct 12- 17, and confirmed for those dates at OKW.

When I was talking to MS she said she had 3 of the 5 days I needed at VWL available- namely the 13th -15th. I could have those days there if I wanted them and then be put on the VWL wait list for the other 2 days. My OKW ressie would still be intact for those 2 days that were not available for VWL. (actually- she used the original ressie# for the first day- the 12th, and had to assign a new ressie for the 16th at OKW)

SO as of right now- my schedule looks like this:
Oct. 12- OKW Studio
Oct. 13, 14, 15- VWL Studio
Oct. 16- OKW Studio

I asked her to keep me on the waitlist for VWL for the 12th and 16th. Which she did and I told her to automatically sign me up for whatever days might come though for the remaining 2 dates. She said that would be no problem.

I think I have a better chance of getting those 2 SINGLE days then I would have had with just looking for a 5 day block of days being freed up.

Is this the strategy that most people take? Or, did I just make a BIG mistake?

We were waitlisted for BWV for a std. 1BR and it came through within a week (we were only looking for one day). We are still waitlisted for a studio for two diff. days but I'm thinking they will come through. It really works the best when you do day by day.

I was only wait listed once when I first bought and tried to get a 7 day reservation for 3 months after buying. As I remember it came through within a week.

I think you did the right thing. If you haven't heard by the 1st week in Sept. I would call and check. Also, ask them to call VWL and "see if there is anyway to clear a room for you"

The only other suggestion I have is since you are set for auto confirm, you should ask for auto cancel on the matching OKW ressie. That way you don't get into a situation of possibly borrowing points or forgetting to cancel a ressie.

Good luck
Sandy

I don't have any experience with the waitlist during the dates you're trying for, but I have already had success with it during the peak summer months at BCV. When we recently added on new points I decided to throw together a quick trip to BCV in July. At exactly 60 days out I was able to get a 1BR at BCV for 2 nights and then a 2BR at VWL for the other 3 nights. Within two weeks I had a call that the other three nights at BCV had come through. I waitlisted day by day.

One thing I did note, however, is that while I was on the phone with a CM trying to decide what to do with the extra points I had used for the 2BR at VWL now that I had confirmed a 1BR at BCV (I took at studio for my teens for 1 night)......several additional rooms became available that weren't available previously (10 mins earlier). It was about 10-10:30 am. I suspect that this is a good time to call to check on your reservations/waitlist.

And a footnote...we did not have any luck with the waitlist at Vero last August, but we only booked 4 months out and it was Labor Day weekend.

We have been successful with the few times that we used the waitlist. We have been on the waitlist before for BWV (last year and the year before) and BC (this year) and they have come thru. We reserved Sat., June 29 at Hilton Head this June and were on the waitlist for Friday, June 28. It came throught about 1 month ago.

karebear,

We waitlisted last Feb. for a 2 BR at BCV. This was right at the 7 month window when the resort wasn't even open yet.

Waitlist came through about 2 weeks later. We did not ask for a call to confirm. We simply waitlisted for the entire week and told them to book it when it became available.

Of course, we had a 2BR at OKW reserved just in case.

Good luck.

Beattyfamily yes ours was for a standard view and we asked to be put on day by day I am not sure if this was a help to us and we were also asked if we wanted automatic acceptance or something to that effect. So as soon as it came available we were given it and they didn't have to call us to confirm or vise a versa. Not sure if that helps at all but I hope you get in for all your days. Our home resort is Hilton Head so we can't book any on property till the 7 month window.

Well, thank you for letting me know. This is certainly discouraging on how reliable and fair the Waitlist is.

I even called MS yesterday and she had no explaination on how this could possibly be. She said it's by a list and she said I'm very high on this list.

I did day by day too but then when I got to only have Nov 30 and Dec 1 left to wait for, a MS person said I should keep those 2 nights together because what if I got Nov 30 and never got Dec 1? That would stink. I'd be moving 3 times. I also have the auto waitlist too where they will just book it and send me a confirmation letter.

Oh well, I just have to keep hoping mine will come through.:(
