Hi guys!
We are considering a trip to hawaii next year to stay in Disneys Alunai resort (hopefuly!!) but wanted some advice about how to get there from anyone who has been!!! who did you fly with? Did you stop off on the way there/back? How bad was it?!! Was it worth it when you got there?!

Thanks so much!
Debxx;)

I havent been but was reasearching a trip for next summer as grandad wanted to go there, sadly he passed away on new years day, im still unsure if well go without him.:confused3

We looked into flights to LA with a stopover there to see diney of course then a flight to hawaii from there and stopping over at either LA again or possibly vancouver to see friends on the way home, even toyed with las vegas on the way but too long flights for the kids then.

If you book multistop flights with one of the american carriers and play about with dates, it works out a lot cheaper than i excepted it to be...its a 5 hour flight from LA.

no direct flight, have been looking at the options (dam DVC building there)
There are flights around connecting , i think there cheaper but were thinking of stopping in Vegas first then flying on

Hi guys,

I went to Hawai'i in 2009 as part of a multi-location trip. There are no direct flights from the UK as it's a huge distance. We flew into Las Vegas, a 10 hour flight on Virgin Atlantic, stayed a few days then flew to Hawai'i from Las Vegas on Hawaiian Airlines. It's another 5 hours from Vegas.

There are plenty of flights from Las Vegas to Hawai'i, Vegas is it seems the holiday destination of choice for Hawaiian natives. All together Hawaiian Airlines did a good job, certainly not a luxury airline but above average.

To answer the other part of your question yes, it is absolutely worth it. If ever I chose another holiday over Disney it would be back to Hawai'i, it is a beautiful place & the people are incredible. I had an amazing time.

That being said if you do go be sure that you arrange a trip to fly to the Big Island to tour the volcano, it's a long day we left at 3am to return at 11pm, but it was the highlight of the trip if not my life to date. It's a simply mesmerising place, everybody at some point needs to check out Hawai'i in my opinion.

Hi, I would agree with the above, its a very long journey but definitely worth it. Also agree one of the few places I really want to visit instead of Disney. Went once with parents about twenty years ago and stayed in LA for a week first and am sure we spent a night in LA on the return because the journey is so long. Went back again for honeymoon to Oahu and Maui and didnt stopover on the way there. Remember having to run for connecting flight to Oahu which was not fun and then the flight from LA to Oahu was a complete blur. We couldnt eat anything, were just exhausted. Now we're older and with children would definitely not attempt journey without stopping somewhere. Oahu was great but at the time we preferred Maui although at our hotel there wasnt much of a beach and it was too breezy to sunbathe on beach so used the pool all the time. Would love to go back sometime.

We went in 08,we changed planes in LA,then onto Oahu.we flew with united,as they had free stopovers & were ALOT cheaper than virgin.
Coming home we had 10 days in Florida.

my Dad did it stopping over in San Francisco in both directions. He said it was a fantastic place to visit.

Never been but can't wait to go in 2013 when its hubbys 40th and my 30th.

We plan to fly to LA for 5 nights - Hawaii for 5 nights - Back to LA for a couple of nights and then 2 weeks in Orlando to get over all that travelling LOL :lmao:

Everyone I have ever known to go there says its a magical amazing place.

We went nearly 4 years ago and it was one of the best trips we had, plus we didn't pay for it ourselves as we used our wedding money!

We flew to San Francisco, then onto Vegas, down to San diego and then LA.
We flew to Oahu with American airlines as part of a package that we bought through skyauctions it was around £650 each for 7 nights, we then flew back to LA/disney for a few days.

We will definitely go back to Hawaii but will probably go to Maui.

Thank you so much guys for all your responses!!
You have convinced me that it will be worth it and sound as though it is somewhere we will want to return to!

At the moment we are trying to choose between March/April or July/August to go out for at least 3 weeks...........any advice as to which to choose from people who have been there at that fime of year!

We definitely want to stop over on the way out and on the way back as we are travelling with a 10 year old and I think he would suffer going straight through!
So, should it be Las Vegas (where we got married!!!), Los Angeles (Disneyland) or San Francisco (never been before!!). Help?!!

We will be staying at Disneys resort (if we can get in at the 7 mnth mark!!) and may hop to another island!

We went in May and the weather was really good, we felt that 7 days was enough time to spend on Oahu but we're not really beach people. We hired a car for the 7 days and travelled all around the island and did all the touristy places like pearl harbour.

I would recommend LA/Disney and San Fransisco, I personally wouldn't want to go to Vegas with a child, ( know many people do) but as you've already been there maybe take in someone else, we also love San Diego.

NO NO NO - Don't go to hawaii!!!
you'll be at risk of never ever wanting to leave!!!!

really... i mean it...
how can you leave paradise?????????????????????

we used to go there a lot when i was growing up - it was our R&R stopover on the way back home from Japan....

as a destination in itself, it can be very far away when you do it all in one shot....layovers make it more doable...

many of the american based airlines fly there - we were big Northwest flyers...so i suppose Delta must be on that route now...
NWA used to offer cheaper flights over seattle....but i don't know if Delta kept those routes...

as for time of year, i've been there all times of the year....it's pleasant there any time of the year....the temperature really doesn't vary all that much...
i think it's something like 80 all year round.....but it can get slightly colder in the winter (as in 70) and a bit hotter in the summer....but not much....
it's not HOT like in orlando.....it's nice and warm....

anyway, that's how i remember it....just sort of the same year round....

but always paradise...

as i said, once you go, you won't want to leave....ever.....ever ever ever...

you've been warned....

ha! ha! :rotfl2:
Yes, we are calling this our 'once only trip of a lifetime' but I can see that we will want to return!!!

How easy is it to island hop to Maui or the Big Island from Honoluu?
So excited just to start planning!!!

Also, if there are any golfers out there, do you know how far Pebble Beach is from Anaheim/LA?!! My hubby would like to escape there for a couple of days whilst me and my son do Disneyland!!!
Debsxx:lovestruc

Pebble beach is about 350 miles (6-8 hours depending on traffic) from Disneyland and its between the beautiful Monterey and Carmel

Also to prepare you as I wish someone had me LOL, one round of golf there is $500 plus cart plus $90 if you want to rent clubs plus tax.

ha! ha! :rotfl2:

i've never been to the island of Hawaii (Honolulu is on the island of Oahu - the island of Hawaii is what is referrred to as the big island), but i have been to Maui and Kauai (in addition to Oahu)..

if you go to Maui, the nicest hotel in my opinion is the Grand Wailea (though the four seasons next door is also very nice)..
here's the website for the grand wailea:
http://www.grandwailea.com/

there are lots of flights between the islands - many different airlines....
you can check for flights between honolulu and maui in expedia or kayak.com... use airport codes HNL and OGG....
(i don't know what the code is for the big island, but it's easy to find i'm sure)..
