Anyone NOT use Carolyn Allen for Tux Rentals? Reviews of other Tux Rental vendors?

My wedding is on a Monday so I'm a bit worried about how Carolyn Allen's Tux partner's warehouse is closed on the weekends.

My wedding party will mostly arrive a day before my wedding, on Sunday, so I'm concerned that if any of the tuxes we would rent might not fit and need a change of size.

So, I'd like to get some input on experiences renting tuxes from other companies.

Are there even any other companies that deliver tuxes to Disney resorts?

There are! Unfortunately, you run into the same problem - their warehouses are closed over the weekend, so if you do a fitting Sunday and something is way wrong (besides pants and sleeves hems) and it's not a style they keep on hand, they can't get you another piece. I called a couple of the other vendors to confirm this when I found out CA was going to be closed. (In our case, we had peak lapel tuxedos but CA only kept notch lapels on hand - so it depends on the style you need and what they keep around.)

However, if I were doing it all over, I would use the new MX Tux - they let you pick up the tuxes at an MW Tux in your hometown and then they will pick them up from your Disney resort and return them - you don't have to schlep them back home on the plane or even drop them off at the store in Orlando!

That way, you can be sure of the fit before you leave town for your wedding.

I am planning on using MW and everything has been easy so far. The fact that we can fly with them and leave them in the lobby of our hotel was a really nice feature.

The only thing is they have to be at the same hotel. The good thing is that you don't have to have them there until noon.

Also we are able to pick up the tux the wed before our sat wedding.

Ohh interesting!

I had heard about the new MW Tux rental but didn't bother to look up if there was a store near Orlando.

Wow, they really drive all the way from Winter Garden to Disney to pick up the tuxes?

Hmm, I guess I'm going to give them a call! Thanks!

Yes they do go all the way to Disney free! Also I don't know how many groomsmen are in your party, however if you rent 5 tuxes the groom is free, or 4 tuxes and then the 5th on is free. I just know the number 5 was in there somewhere. We aren't having that many so I stopped paying attention.

I use them in sept so I can tell you about it better then.

I have gotten a lot of mail about MW Tux and their commercial makes me cry EVERYTIME! But, I hadn't heard about their service at all. Just that AfterHours was so horrible. So I'm glad that some on here are having a good experience. How early do you have to think about tuxes? Like 3 months?

About 2 months. All my people have to go in by sept 3rd I believe. I've been telling them August so they dont screw up. However my DH already got fitted and will get remeasured to make sure his numbers matched the beginning of sept. Our VR is sept 20th.

They didnt seem to need a lot of time. However if you are having your wedding during peak rental season ie prom I would go earlier to make sure they have the one you want in stock.

Good point!! All the proms are in April around here. Thanks!

If you are thinking of picking up in Orlando. I think there were some problems a few months ago with MW. That is true about any company though. But if you fit it and take with beforehand it should be fine. Make sure to have them try on all of the pieces one last time through pick up.

We are doing our Tux Rental here in Pittsburgh and having everything shipped down to Carol Allens for steaming. We are only going to be in Orlando 2 days prior to the wedding and my DF is WAY too paranoid to wait until then to fit for his tux.

If you don't ship them, CA can come and steam them. I am having my dress steamed and when they do that they are also steaming the tuxes of the people traveling. It might save a little bit of money on the shipping and steaming and CA holding fee.

CA does have a minimum to come to disney to steam, I believe it is on bridal gown, or 5 tuxes. To me it seems like you just need $100 worth of steaming. The dresses range from $80-100(I think) and the tuxes, flower girl dresses, and any other type dress, BM, MOH are all $20 each. It might make sense to bring them on the plane and have CA come to your hotel.

We went through AfterHours, which is now owned by MW. Some of the problems they had in the past few months maybe due to the changing of computer systems for the merge.

We didn't have that bad of an experience. The normal stuff you get when you get tux rentals. Most everyone had some slight fitting problems, but nothing major. The only problem everyone, except DH, had was shoes. He was the only one that had his shoes fit. They did refund everyones money for the shoes though. The worst thing is they didn't deliver. We had to make numerous trips to the Florida Mall for tuxs (not because of the store or them not fitting, but rather stubborness  :furious: ).

Oh right, good point. I forgot about the need to steam the Tuxes.

I'm now thinking we'll use MW and have everyone fitted for their Tuxes and fly down with them, and then I'll have CA come steam the dresses + tuxes.

Hmm dunno if I should start a new thread for my next question, but has anyone bought their own steamer to steam their formalwear by themselves? Any good recommendations? (I can't decide if I want to waste time doing that while I'm down there though LOL)

Just found this thread and we need help!! We actually just got back from MW Tux and left more confused then when we walked in. We are arriving in FL on a Thursday and getting married on a Monday. We were told that we would have to pick the tux up in FL on Friday. They never gave us the option to pick it up here and fly with it, which it looks like a lot of other couples have done. We were also told that we would have to bring it back oursevles the next day, instead of them coming to the resort to pick it up. Now we could have just had a very uninformed sales rep! So if anyone knows anything about this it would be very helpful!!

If you call the MW Tux in Orlando/Winter Park, they should be able to phone your local store and explain everything to them. The Disney Wedding contact at the Winter Park store is Julie Mischia, 407-656-7700 ext 2601.

HTH!

Julie is really helpful. Also you shouldn't have to being them back to the original store you picked them up from. We picked up tuxes from 3 different NJ stores and 2 FL ones. I left all of them at the bell service at the Grand the morning after the wedding. No problems at all! I recommend them totally.

Thank you both! We will call them tomorrow and hopefully get this all straightened out!

I know some brides have shipped their gown to Carolyn Allen's...which I plan on doing. How do you ship a huge gown???? What kind of box? Shipping Service? How to package it?

Anything advice would help! Thanks!

Here's a thread with info on shipping your dress.

I sent mine FedEx and used the box it came in from the manufacturer (cuz I bought it off eBay). You can squoosh the dress way down - it doesn't matter, because Carolyn Allen will steam all the wrinkles out!
