Tootles, if you are still reading this thread, please contact me either by PM or at PKellogg1@cfl.rr.com. I assure you, it is a good thing!

Thank you!

BTW :
You did mention one of your sons is 8 years old.
May I ask how old the other boy(s) is (are)?

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:

He's 5.

Oh...c'mon now....I was just noticing the 'broke' thing.....;) none of us who can spare any at all are broke- it's a vacation-

I agree, I thought the "broke" reference was a bit much, but I get it, budgets are tight and we all have to prioritize.

If one needs to know-this money was in part left to me by a family member. So no, I would not have been able to have saved for it all. Having a vacation with my family is a priority right now, even more so then the bills piling up on the counter. For some that seems maybe not very rational. Life is short, and we've never had a vacation like this. And yes, I think my family member would be happy to know I've blown it away on a WDW!

I don't think so.....broke means you can't afford Disney:thumbsup2 and if $5 bucks a day to do the right thing means you can or can't go,maybe you should rethink the trip budget.....;)

I think I agree with other posters that if you feel you should, but aren't tipping to pinch a penny, that's not right, but if you honestly feel' taken' by having to tip housekeeping, then just don't. There's no law.
At the risk of getting flamed along with you, I agree.

If the OP said she didn't think she should tip because it's not a tipped position, then I would probably say "oh, well." and leave it at that. But that's not what she's saying. She's saying that she doesn't want to tip because she doesn't want to spend the money, even though she thinks she should. She's even thinking about leaving the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door to avoid the whole issue.

I think it's a bit like undertipping: "I only tip $1 per person at the Old County Buffet at home, so I will only tip $1 per person at Chef Mickeys. After all, they only bring my drink and clear my dishes. I can't afford to tip them 15%! I've been saving so long for this trip and I could spend the extra $9 on Mickey Bars for the kids."

Of course, I might feel a bit different about the OP's "We're broke!" cry if she wasn't staying 6 nights using the Disney Dining Plan. This is JMO that people who are really pinching pennies don't spend over $100 per day on food at WDW.

Housekeeping is not a tipped position.
Tipping is optional.
The OP does not travel much and I think she only thought housekeeping was a tipped position because of what she read on these boards. That may be why she thought about leaving the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door to avoid the whole issue.

Now she knows it is not a tipped position and she can go and have good time without any guilt.

To the OP I hope your trip is magical.

 Please quote me, I never said I felt I SHOULD tip. I simply asked if everyone else does tip. It never even occured to me to tip housekeeping ever. So, no, I do NOT feel quilty. It was an expense I never expected to incure until I read it hear on the Disboards. I'm certain my DH never tipped housekeeping on our honeymoon either. I was trying to find out if it was the norm or not. That's all. I will sleep fine at night, trust me. So, no "I do NOT think I should HAVE to tip housekeeping". Therefore I won't be-this trip. Period. :sad2: (thank you) :)

Tootles, please have a wonderful time and ignore all the judgmental statements on this thread. Maybe we need more pixie dust for some on this thread :sad2: I saw judgmental statements on another board that's why I joined this one. I thought this one wasn't quite as bad.... hmmm.

I stand corrected. I took your comments:

I'm really not a horrible person. Just broke that's all....:rolleyes1

Maybe if I just cancel Mousekeeping while we're there? We're very neat and tidy and I did read that it's not like they change the sheets until we leave or anything. New towels is about the only thing I could see us needing. Would that be acceptable? Then Mousekeeping isin't cleaning our room, and we're keeping our money. Has anyone done this?:confused3

To mean that you thought that you should tip and that you would cancel Mousekeeping not to tip. It looks like minnie61650 had the right reading of your comments then.

As others have pointed out, you don't need to tip and the maid service you will get will be just as professional as if you did tip. They won't use your toothbrushes to clean the toilet  because you didn't leave them anything! At least I don't think they will :scratchin.

Oh my gosh, I always tip!!!!
They work so hard, even if they do a sub par job, they are cleaning up after me!!!!!! I wish my DH and kids would tip me for the subpar job that I do at home!!!!
I leave $5 a day. This is so nothing in the grand scheme of things. $25 for a 5 day trip?! It is just like a visit to McDonalds or Dunkin's. I really appreciate all the good work all these housekeepers do. I'm leaving $10 a day when we go in December! Have a great trip!

Don't worry about it OP. I don't tip either and I have worked in the hospitality industry for years. No hotel that I have ever worked at had maids that regularly got tips. Tipping is far less common for maids than some people on this board think. I remember one of my old co-workers commenting one day she did get a tip...it was her first tip ever after working there for 2 months...and this was an upscale hotel! Most people, like myself, feel that if I am spending such a high rate for a room, that cleaning is included. Yes, they do work very hard and not for much, but so do MANY other people at WDW and everywhere for that matter. I believe tipping can be a great thing but some people take it to a level that seems a bit more than I can afford.

They might. I read it here on the Disboards! :lmao:
Thank you for posting again-I hate getting flamed.

Well this Op is going to stop reading this thread now because I got what I was looking for. Answers from some lovely people. (and I really hate to argue) So, let's all just agree to disagree on this one. Thank you again to everyone who posted-lovely and not.:rolleyes1 May you dream by the millions, and may your million dreams come true....

If I were a mousekeeper I would take robinb's toothbrush and use it to clean OP's toilet. So I guess it's a good thing I am not :rotfl:
I'm sorry, that was rude, but some comments directed to OP were just plain mean spirited and self righteous. Two things that are not very nice. Like cleaning toilets with toothbrushes. :scared1:

:rotfl:It was a joke. Just like your comment to me. Stick around a while and you'll be able to tell the jokes from the truly rude comments .

Ok this thread is going round and round on tipping. It's time to close it. At WDW housekeeping is not a tipped position. It is at Disneyland.

I tip at every hotel I stay at. I sometimes leave a little note thanking them also and have gotten back some really nice notes.

Maybe I don't have to but it does help to brighten someones day.
