Anyone Not like Boma?

my wife and i have eaten at boma twice, and we both love it. you do have to be a little willing to experiment and try new tastes. if you are a meat and potatoes type, then this is probably not your place. i did not find many items that had a strong taste, most flavours were subtle: disney obviously does not want to scare people away with a lot of strongly spiced food. by the way,the seafood gumbo that is usually there is the best! my wife, who eats a plain diet, can find enough basic foods there to keep her happy. i hate to see other posts of people complaining about boma, because we enjoy it so much. but different strokes for different folks. like most of the disney restaurants, if you are curious about boma at all i would give it a try yourself, and not rely on what others have written.

I wasn't sure about the menu before I went, but I loved it, as did my unadventurous mom, and we went back later in the week for breakfast!

On the other hand, I thought the zebra domes were overrated :)

We're going back in September -- at least once for breakfast and dinner.

Dh and I ate breakfast here and it was pretty good. DH loved everything, and I found enought to keep me happy. Our next trip he really wants to go for dinner. I am very picky, will I find enough to make me happy? This is Dh's pic for a restaurant (we each picked 1 and then picked 2 together) so I can't tell him no.

I didn't really care for it and if you dh has any kind of food allergy to spices I would stay away. Since having my gallbladder removed I am very senstive to spices and I was so sick all night. My dh on the other loved it but he like strange food.

My DW and I ate there last May and were not impressed. She thought it was OK and I just did not care for it. I am glad we tried it though, its always nice to try something dsifferent..smjj

My DW and DDs are among the pickiest eaters you'll ever meet. They are very "meat and potatoes" and when we go to Boma, that's exactly what they eat: the roast beef and the potaotes with "Afri-tude". They also manage a few sweets for dessert(the cookies are good). I am an adventure eater and love to try different things, so it's great for me--especially the soups. :earsboy:

My DH & I just returned from Disney on Sunday. We absolutely loved our eating adventure at Bomas. In addition to eating at Bomas, we also went to Restaurant Marrakesh this trip. We loved it too!

Glad we ate dinner there once...don't feel the need to do it again (unless they stop selling the zebra domes at Mara, then we'd HAVE to go back). :goodvibes

After reading all the rave reviews we were very disappointed in Boma. I'm not crazy about buffets, I should have not expected too much. That said I think you should try it. I would have missed out on some good meals if I went by some of the reviews on this board. We all have different tastes, I take the reviews with a grain of salt and try myself.

I could have written the same. The food was buffet food. The prime rib we had was cold and overcooked (other people have said theirs was rare, but that's buffet food). The dessert seemed stale, and frankly, I have higher expectations of what a good pastry chef can produce than zebra domes. Nothing really was fresh. The soups were excellent. Being a buffet, I spent too much time on my feet, feeding my children, when I would have liked to sit down and eat. It was also the only dinner where we waited 30 minutes past our PS time to get seated.

Had I expected buffet quality, I would have been happy. But the build up on it had me expecting a buffet with straight from the kitchen quality.

(we were pleasantly surprised the same trip by Biergarten, because our expectations for that were low - it was a walk in for a late lunch on arrival day, done only because we had someone along who enjoys celebrating her German heritage.)

By the way, we have pretty adventerous tastes. Sushi and Thai are household staples, I use up a box of couscous every month and my bag of curry needs to be replaced. So for us, it wasn't "unusual spicing" - in fact, the meal disappointed there as well, as the spicing wasn't really interesting. Except for the soups.

We went on our last trip in September and really enjoyed it. Our dd 3yrs old really liked it. Of sorse this is a girl who eats sushi. Our ds 6, was feeling sick that night (too many trips on Space Mt???) so they brought him a sprite and let him eat the flat bread free of charge. As for my husband and I- well we do enjoy a nice meal, I wouldn't call us food snobs but Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares on the BBC is one of our favortie TV shows and has raised our expectations a bit... I have to say Boma did NOT disapoint.
I was emabrassed to find my self saying mmmmmmmmmmmmmm while eating! We took small tastes of everything and was almost surprised to find it was all tastey. I really liked the couscous, and sweet potato dish. MMMMMMMMMMM, well dinner tonight will pale in comparison!

We will absolutley go again!

We stayed at AKL for 21 nights so we ate at Boma over a dozen times on that trip. We had dinner once and have to say we weren't overly impressed, but the breakfast's were great, we really enjoyed every breakfast we had there.

I loved Boma, I thought it was wonderful. My husband hated it. He thought it was "just not Disney," and didn't like the food at all, either. This was in 2004. He didn't like the spices (and I cook all kinds of interesting food at home).

I don't know what exactly his problem was, but he was very down on it.

If I remember rightly, a zebra cake was just a little white cake with white and black icing, I don't remember it being a cheesecake? Not sure. Four years ago...it's been a long time.

I actually rather mourn the fact that we probably won't be there this trip, because I thought it was fantastic, and HANDS DOWN, we got the best treatment there for Meredith's food allergies - the chef was phenomenal and walked the entire buffet with us, offering modified versions of anything that interested her....they were so good to us that night. It was good at all the restaurants, really, but Boma was something special.

This is a thread from more than 3 years ago...about people who DON'T like Boma. What's the point of resurrecting an ancient thread when you are saying the opposite?

Why not find a current thread about people who like Boma:confused3

Always wonder why folks open up old threads...just wondering....:rolleyes1

Huh, I didn't notice when it started. I just saw it in the new posts.

I replied because DH and I were debating BOMA today, and it seemed topical to me. We're on both sides of the coin.

Storybookmum, Yes, I didn't notice when this was started either. I just saw the tread and went to page 3 and the only post on that page was dated today, so..... whoops.... sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone.

No offense taken:thumbsup2 . Just commenting on the oddness of resurrecting a very old thread just to say the opposite...:)

Also wonder how the heck they found this old thread, since the search function usually doesn't work at all:rolleyes1

DH and I love breakfast there, it is incredible. We tried dinner and did not like it at all, it wasnt that the food was bad it just wasnt what we like. I dont want my ribs and chicken to taste sweet with cinnamon, almost dessert like....and zebra domes? What the heck is all the hype? They are pretty blech in my opinion

YUCKYUCKYUCK!!!!!!! Don't do it!!!

Seriously, there are a lot of people who do enjoy Bomas. We are not any of those people. Most everything is heavily spiced and the dishes are heavy on the bell peppers. We don't even like the desserts. Not our family, and none of our extended family either.

Good for people who like it. People who like it, really like it. We really don't. Like everything else, it is a matter of preference. Maybe you need to try it anyway.

ITA

My family loves Mara and Jiko for what it's worth.
