anyone NOT get pedestals for front loaders???

I don't have the pedestals either. First I think they are too expensive. Plus I prefer to turn off my water when finished (have a fear of water hose breaking) and I wouldn't be able to reach the faucets.

DH got them to throw them in for free when we bought ours. Use it as a bargaining tool....I'll buy this set if you throw in the pedestals for free! Mine are the kind without drawers so we're as expensive as the ones shown in the store that had them. I would not like to use the W/D without them, really.

we didn't get them. We have cupboards above for storage.

seems you can bend to get laundry in/out or you can bend to get stuff out of the storage area. The bending isn't a big deal to me.:)

ETA: I wouldn't mind the counter when we replace these - that would be convenient.

I guess I am alone in that I LOVE the pedestals. I don't fold my laundry in the laundry room. I like not bending over to get the clothes in and out. I got the blue color and if I could go back in time, I would just get the plain old white ones. Now if one of the appliances breaks, I would have to replace everything to match.

We do have pedestals and I often wonder if our machine would have an easier time balancing itself if we didn't have them.

I'm not a fan of the front loaders. If I had it to do over again I'd get one of the new top loaders instead.

I didn't get the pedestals either. Other than soap, I couldn't imagine what I could put in them and it would have been $400 for wasted drawers. Lots more things I could do with $400.
the guy at Home Depot said that if I want them raised off the floor I could just put them on some cinder blocks. I was thinking of getting some blocks and putting a piece of wood on the blocks and just putting them up a bit because it does get hard to bend and get the last few small items out of the washer as I get older (wiser)

We have them and for the people that want them w/o spending all the money let me tell you what I did.

I just keep my eyes open for returns and stuff. I got the dryer ped for $10 at Lowes. It was about 4-5 months later that I was at Best Buy and they had my ped for the washer, it was a return, nothing wrong with it. I told them Lowes priced me one for $10 so BB matched that. So I paid $20 for both.

Forgot to mention, the return did not have the hardware so I call Samsung and they sent me it for free.

I'm with you guys there is no way I'd pay $400+, but my Dh loves them.

So keep an eye out for returns, clearence you never know.

We do not have pedestals either. Ours are stacked on top of each other. We have a very small laundry room and they fit perfectly stacked. This gives me room to the side for a shelving system for a lot of additional storage.

I hope you arent getting the same LG model that we bought. Its total crap. We built a new house last yr and bought an LG front load. I am so fed up, it will be 1 yr next month.

We are going to buy a top load next week.

Good luck, I hope yours is better than ours.

Oh and no, we dont have the pedestals.

I have pedestals, long story we paid next to nothing for ours including the pedestals. I have washer dryer in basement laundry room, and wouldn't want to be bothered with the bending. I still stick things on top, but I am pretty tall.

I saw all of your comments about making pedestals with cinder blocks and wood, and it would concern me. My units can't even be on the main or top floor of a house due to the force generated from the spinning.

Here is what we did for my mother. Her washer dryer died and we did not have time to shop for months for replacements. She went to Lowes, HD, BB, Sears picked out the units she wanted and got a fair price, but as you all have complained the extra cost for the pedestals would be $400--why would she spend that money? As my mother would say, "that's why she had children." (She uses the same excuse to avoid a whole host of delivery charges too).

Now take a walk with me if you will into do it yourself la-la land.....Mom wanted them off the floor, she was concerned if the basement flooded her washer/dryer would be ruined (house has not flooded in 24 years she has lived there) but whatever she is my mother. So we built a form out of some old wood in the exact place that she wanted the washer dryer. She went back to the store and figured out exactly how high off the floor she wanted the units, and we poured her a concrete pad--yes I know I over indulge her. Needless to say the delivery guys loved it and it was perfectly level since I spend an obscene amount of time making it. I probably spent about $100 in materials, but I also built her a small vault in the concrete. I knew this was what she wanted so I made certain she did not schedule delivery immediately to allow time for the pad to cure.

So if you have a handy friend/family member, and are sick of laying on the floor to load your laundry, you may consider this option. It really was easy, just time consuming (and a bit ridiculous for my mothers basement).

We have front-loading Samsungs. We didn't get the pedestals. We bought the $20 kit to stack them instead. The dryer sits on top of the washer. I like it :-) Since my laundry room is only as wide as a washer and dryer and not very deep (it is the walkway to the garage as well), I didn't have much room to put laundry baskets and stuff. With them stacked, we had room to put up two white shelves with the continuous slide hanging racks (one is full length and goes above the dryer and the other goes in the space where the dryer should be). Now, I can put my baskets on the floor underneath the hanging racks, put my laundry supplies on top of the dryer (I'm fairly tall and can reach it), and have a place to hang clothes up). I can also set folded clothes on top of the lower hanging rack.

I checked and it is only an inch or so lower than my old dryer to load the washer, so most of the "extra" bending is all in my head. Stacking was cheaper and more space efficient for us.

You got a better deal then I did! I paid $25 each. We were buying the last washer/dryer set in the particular color and they had about 10 pedestals left so we got a deal.

My front loaders are stacked so we didn't need to buy the pedestals......but my nephew wanted his on pedestals so he built them himself

Hey, that is still a GREAT deal !!!:goodvibes

We started out with no pedestals, but after about 6 months DW insisted we get them. Have had no problems with balance, rocking or otherwise. In fact the washer runs smoother on the pedestal than before. They're Maytag and the drawer under the washer absolutely hold the normal 64 load size of Tide and a gallon bleach jug.

OP checking in. Thx for all the replies. I knew I could depend on the Dis for candid opinions. I feel better about not getting the peds this time, at least my wallet feels better. My old pedestals were quite big and held gal containers of bleach, softener, and decent sized HE detergent. I put quite a bit of stuff in them like the detergent, softner, bleach, spray wash, dryer sheets and clothes pins. The other drawer holds extra cleaners, car cleaning care and light bulbs. I can easily relocate these items and already have a folding table in the laundry room. I am hoping to have better luck w/ this new set that my old kenmore frontloaders. Maybe I should sell the kenmore pedestals since they cost so much still? Thx again.:goodvibes

We have never had them, BUT, we have Kenmore machines....do you live close to me? ;)

However, I did not like the front loader itself, and now have the traditional top loader. The smell was driving me crazy, and I could not get rid of it. Something was behind that smell, and I could not locate it. Cleaning the seal did not get rid of it, neither did leaving the door open. Something that cleans my clothes should not smell that was.
Drove the wife and I crazy with our front loader as well. The washer stunk, the tub it drains into stunk, the clothes stunk, the whole basement stunk. I googled around and found.... Borax! About a 1/4 cup of borax in the washer before it is loaded and the clothes are cleaner than they've ever been and there's no more smell.

I have well water, FYI, and also no filter on it. The water is clean enough to drink right from the tap, so we didn't know why we had the stinky water and not-so-clean clothes. Wasn't sure if it was the water or the washer because we bought ours shortly after moving into the house.

His suggested if we really wanted the height was to build a wooden pedestal for both to sit on.
Bingo! That's what I had planned on doing.

Of course, my husband intended to do that, but didn't.
Unfortunately, Bingo again. I intended to build something but never did either...

My understanding is that the smell is in the door/under the rubber seal. I have to clean it out regularly, and I have to leave the door propped open when not in use.

This was not a problem in California at all, but the moisture here in NC causes it to trap mold/mildew smells.
