Anyone NOT buy refillable mugs?

We try to plan out our days a head of time (what park each day, etc), and if it looks like it would be cheaper to buy the mugs than spend out of pocket, we buy them. Distance to the food court isn't really an issue, since we stay a lot at POFQ - its not a far walk from anywhere.

We do use them at home, because we make our coffee every morning and bring it with us to work. But we did learn our lesson and buy the ones that fit in the car cup holders. We have two from DL left over from before the merge with FQ and can't use them cuz they are too big.

I'm a fan of the refillable mug - definitely love my pink lemonade! we get them the day we check in and use them once if not twice a day. :goodvibes

Since my group doesn't have children and we don't drink soda, it's not much of an investment. Some don't even drink coffee (me, I need my room service coffee, even if it's Nescafe dreck).

If Disney allowed you to refill the mug with gin or Guinness, I might reconsider.

We don't buy them. We normally make a food stop before we hit WDW and for the price we'd have to pay for 5 mugs (or even a couple) we can buy a lot of soft drinks at Wal-Mart for the cost of the mugs... plus we get to pick the drinks we like instead of being stuck with Coke products!

We use to buy the mugs, but we do not buy them anymore. We usually take drinks and snacks with us. Also, with the dining plan you get your drinks at all your meals and you could have a drink for a snack. There is no need for us to spend the extra dollars.

We buy them - BUT we always stay at the BC and I am getting really sick of the same mug! I also suffer from Migraine headaches and am now on a medication called Topamax - which has greatly helped me - BUT it makes soda taste FLAT and so I just do not drink it. I was always a big water drinker anyway - so that is what I drink mostly , along with juice or fruit punch. I know I will probably be flamed for this - but if I just drink water , do you think it would be ok if I just brought an old a last years mug rather than a paper cup? I will probably get yelled for that - but I really think they need to change the styles-

We bought them on our first trip to ASMO and will buy them again when we go back this summer. Since we always come back for a break in the afternoon, the mugs gets filled at least 4 times a day and sometimes more. I'm a pink lemonade junkie.

I have yet to use one of them here though. I wish they'd do something with tokens, we really don't need the mugs once we leave Disney plus it would be easier than to carry mugs in the parks all day.

When the mugs first came out they were a great deal. Cost around $5 and you could use them at all the resorts, and bring them back on your next trip, and they were a nice souvenier.

Now they cost a lot more, and we make morning coffee in the room, and make a run to Target for canned soda. I did get one on the last trip, mostly for soda at the pool. It seemed like the folks at the little cafe window at CSR were not thrilled about refilling them (and I also tipped there and at the pool when getting it refilled).

ETA: got the mug for free last trip. For some reason Pepper Market rang it up as free with a meal we bought.

i remember when they first came out too, and the deal was you could use them anywhere and when you came back. so two years later i packed up my dixie landings cup (i know i am dateing myself with that one), and used it no problem no one even gave me a second look . but now the policy has changed and that dixie landings mug is faded and funky.

We buy them, because we end up refilling them in the morning before going to the park and then we fill them up at any sit down location, as they usually offer an extra refill or two to fill it. Also they are very convient to add water to, or if you buy a large drink and don't quite drink all of it right away you can put in the cup and still keep your drink that you paid for and go on rides (not to drink while you are though, just so you don't have to throw it away).

We don't buy them...we really don't drink soda or coffee at the parks, and we usually make our coffee in room. We are going to have bottled water delivered to the room before we get there.

Na. I just grab a cup out of the garbage and use that for my free soda. I can't believe that they give free soda like that.

We stayed at POR on our first visit last May, so we had a coffee maker in our room. We brought bottled water and juice also. We are staying at POP in Sept. and my dd strongly suggested we buy the mugs. They did when they were there in Nov. I am a huge coffee drinker and my dh has to have his water. Our 2 grandkids will diffantly earn extra Disney Dollars by refilling them for us!:rotfl:

We found them to be expensive when you consider what you can buy at the grocery store for the price of the mugs.

For our family the mugs are almost $50 and that will buy all the soda, snacks and breakfast items for the week at the grocery store.

I measured how much you get in a mug and its 12oz without ice, so once you add ice, there really isn't much soda in them. For coffee and hot chocolate thats a nice amount, but that really isn't much soda for a teenager!

I think it really depends on the person/family and time of year. We went in September and didn't know about the mugs until the last day. There were NO lines for any of the rides or shows and we ended up back in the hotel more often that we thought we would. We fly there and have no way to go to the store to buy soda/water to keep in our room so we kept going to the little store in the Poly and grabbing a soda if we were thirsty. At like $2 or $3 a piece, it gets expensive. For us the mug would have been easier if we just wanted a splash of something to drink like we did. Thankfully we had a fridge, which I hear not all rooms do, so we were able to save whatever was left from the bottle of soda we bought. We went again in December of last year and wasn't at the resort nearly as much as our previous trip so no mugs were needed.

Not buying for this trip. We will be drinking water from our purchase at staples and Our coffee fix will be from the Kona coffee spot in the GCH. If the children want a soda they will have to walk to the snack place so I think that will cut down on the soda drinking. That is the theory now. A woman has a right to change her mind though. I have collected the mugs from other trips but I am not one to bother packing them for a return trip and after a years use they need to be replaced. The dishwasher does a job on the picture.

We buy the mugs for several reasons.

1. I love fountain pop. I know, weird. It has a different taste and I really enjoy it. If I am going to buy it anyways, I might as well get a souveiner mug.

2. My dad likes variety. One time he'll drink orange pop, the next time diet coke and the next root beer (or whatever). Again at $2 a drink from disney, it's not long before he's paid for the mug and buying individual cans of soda (even from a grocery store)- and trying to guess what he's going to want - is expensive. At home it's not an issue because 6 - 12pks is a breeze to store but I don't want to be lugging this stuff half away across the world or have it stacked up in the room.

3. They're cute and only available at Disney. There are lots of things / experiences / foods, etc that I only do or enjoy at Disney. This is one of them. If they offered them at my work, would I buy one? Probably not. But I am on vacation and the idea of a mug I can fill up anytime at my hotel with anything (that's available) I think I'll splurge.
