Anyone miss their "old" resort?

I had this exact same concern when we first joined DVC. Another POR lover here, and even after we joined, I had a solo trip that I initially booked at POR. Was sure a DVC studio would be too much of an extravagance. But the opportunity to stay at BCV right after it opened (stay at a brand new resort!) was too much-actually DH encouraged me to "go for it". Came home and talked DH into 100 point add-on at BCV just for my solo trips, and haven't missed staying at POR at all since.

I too was a big fan of Dixie Landings (POR) prior to joining DVC. The quiet beauty of this resort always made me relax immediately. In staying at OKW, hoever, I have found this same feeling and do not "miss" POR.

Further, now that I have the easy options available amongst the 5 on-site DVC resorts, I can't imagine a time where I will "long" for the old-days.

As for other resorts, I too enjoy visits to resort restaurants to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere at each. A visit, however, is all I want, because you just can't beat coming home to a huge room with all the amenities of home :)

We have been to almost every on site resort. GF, YC, and Swan/Dolphin are the missing visits. We have enjoyed every stay at all of the resorts we have visited. We use AP codes and points when the points are less than AP codes to stay at non-DVC resorts. We are looking forward to our third AKL visit, this time concierge for three nights this February before a week at OKW.

We will get to the other resorts in good time.

Our splurging resort was WL (which is where we own), but we usually stayed at Dixie Landings. We always visit there when we are at WDW. We bring our refillable mugs (remember the yellow mug with the 'classic Mickey' on them?) and go to the food court.
We order a pizza and try to eat at the water wheel (and there better not be anyone at OUR table ;) ). Then we walk around, sometimes go down the Sassagoula River to DD. We really love that place. Hhmmm, maybe it's time for a re-visit? Maybe a weekend!

When we were taking the tour our guide told us " visit all the other resorts and enjoy them and come home each night". This is exactly what we do every visit. We love PO, CS,CBR.and Poly and spend the better part of a day at them but we always look forward to going home every evening.

Our "regular" resort was WL, so we bought at VWL. All the great benefits of WL with much better accommodations!!

We don't "miss it" a bit!! :p

Our "old" resorts were the BC and the Poly. We took care of the BC by buying into the BCV. We may go back to the Poly in another year or so just to say hello. And stay for a few nights.

We have never stayed at our home resort and have tried both BWV and VWL. Prior to that our stays were at all 3 of the all stars Coronado Springs and Dixie Landings. My absolute favourite was All Star Sports just can't get enough of that place also really loved Coronado would never stay at Dixie again just not my cup of tea beautiful place but just felt like I was walking around an old age retirement home. We are at OKW this year and I am sure it will feel the same to me as Dixie did when we stayed there but I will mae due and then again next year when I have to stay there again. Our next non DVC resort is going to be CBR can't wait to try that one we love the look of it.

The resort we liked the best out of all our stays before joining DVC-OKW in 1997 was the Tree House Villas. The accomodations were absolutely the best. Still miss not being able to stay there and it's been 21 years since our last stay.

The resorts I loved before buying DVC were the Wilderness Lodge and the Beach Club - so that made buying DVC even better! I did not think I could like a resort better than the WL until I stayed at the BC and fell in love with it. The villas is that much better because there is more room. But I miss the rooms at the BC that are on the second floor just up that short flight of stairs off the lobby.

Prior to buying into DVC, my favorite moderate was Dixie Landings. I still love DL (refuse to call it POR)...and DH and I try to visit Boatwright's for breakfast at least once each trip. But my all time favorite is the GF.

DH and I love visiting the Disney resorts...appreciating the grandeur of the lobbies, and the unique theming of each resort. But it is nice to come "home" each night. No hotel room can match the coziness of a DVC villa.

We like visiting the resorts each trip. We we usually go to dinner at a couple of them over the course of a trip, and often will just go to see the lobby etc. I particularily like to visit AKL, Poly, WL, GF and Cont. I would rather visit them this way than give up my OKW accomodations!::yes::

Well I must admit that I THOUGHT I would miss our old favorites. As you can see in my sig, The Poly was our favorite. Not far behind was WL and AKL, as we just love these resorts due to the heavy theming.
Since WL was one of my favorites, VWL suits us to a tee. Actually, I like the architecture of VWL more than WL. :D

We will now and again get our fix, and use points for a few nights at The Poly, and AKL...

Our "old resort" was the Polynesian, and we're going back for a couple days this year on our final weekend. But keep it quiet; my family doesn't know yet -- it's a surprise! DS10 and DS7 have each asked more than once if we're going back to the Polynesian, which is where we stayed during their first trip in 2001. For me, visiting GF, WL, etc is enough, but I have to stay at the Polynesian to really appreciate it.

If I thought buying DVC meant never again staying at non-DVC resorts, I wouldn't have joined. I even feel just a little sad that as BCV members, we will probably never stay at the "real" Beach Club, which was where I intended to stay last year before we decided to join.

The only resorts we had ever stayed in prior to DVC was All Star Movies, POR, Contemporary Tower and WL. I am another fan of POR (loved the quiet beauty of this resort) and of course WL. We combined a stay at OKW and WL in 2002 just because we love the WL atmosphere and theme. As much as we love OKW, had VWL been available when we purchased, that is where we would have chosen our "home" resort to be. I really don't miss the All Stars at all----but our kids loved it when they were younger. I miss the "view" from the Contemporary Tower room but not the room or hotel itself. I have always wanted to try the Poly and I think one of these days I will make a ressie for a night or two there. :earsgirl:

We never stayed at the same resort twice so we dont really have much to miss (except for the Embassy Suites on International Drive to which I say GOOD RIDDANCE!!! I shall never forget the horrific traffic jams....) We did spend New years Eve 2001/2002 in the Animal Kingdom Lodge which was breathtaking although I fund the room itself on the small side. We also spent our First Anniv. at POR (French Q.) which I found very charming. We always used to visit the various resorts (esp. checking out the restaurants) which will not change. I dont think I am going to mind coming home to a large 2BR room after spending the day "visiting" the others!!!!

The only thing I'll miss is the wonderful view of Crescent Lake across to the Boardwalk, seeing that BCV doesn't have a lake view. Sure wished they could have somehow built BCV with that in mind, but the land configuration just wasn't there.

I guess we could look to stay at BWV at some point, and probably will.

I know I'm going to miss that lake view this upcoming trip. This past August we stayed at the YC and I fell in love with that view! Oh well I'll live-lol.

We never had an "old" favorite. We always liked trying something new, still do! On our upcoming trip we will be staying at "home" - BWV, but then transferring to another resort (probably Poly or BC) for three days to check out new scenery!

This was my wife's greatest concern when we joined DVC in 1995. Our first stay on Disney property had been in 1993 at Dixie Landings. We fell in love with that resort and we sad to think that we wouldn't be staying there anymore. Those worries evaporated the first time we stayed at Old Key West. We still visit DxL from time to time, but now OKW feels like home.

Another Dixie Landings lover reporting in! We had tried several of the resorts but Dixie was our favorite. We have gone and visited. Our next trip we will be staying for the weekend. First time in 6 years, I'll let you know how it works out.

Kelly
