I used to sell a ton on EBay years ago and even made enough as a side gig that it paid for a few Disney trips for us. Lately, I have sold a few things on Mercari, but it just seems to take forever to sell anything on there. We have also sold on Craigslist every now and then.

Was thinking of trying to get back in it just for a little extra money and when there is downtime over the winter.

So I’m wondering if anyone here has been having any luck selling things online and what you have found that seems to sell quickly.

I sell on eBay. Been selling my trading cards mostly and they seem to get a fair amount of traction. Also programs to different shows and events. eBay gives you 50 free listings a month so I try to eat those up every month to see how something does.

Thx for this! I haven't sold on ebay in years. A lot must have changed while I've been away. Will need to re-learn the ins and outs.

There's a lot of things that are different now. I can't say they're all for the better. Also beware that after a certain time frame ebay opens up your listing to offers and I've gotten tons of scammers on there. I always just decline them but it's really annoying. Also make sure you turn off the smart pricing thing that will decrease the value of your item if it doesn't sell.

Thanks so much! I did list one item on ebay recently and found that I was quite lost on the ebay seller pages. Much more complex than it was 10-15 yrs ago when I used to sell often (my kids clothing-- they are grown now so....) For example, I was going to be out of town and I COULD NOT find how to set my store to "vacation" setting. Amazon is easy. Takes me 1 minute to set my amazon store to Vacation. But ebay sent me going in circles!

I sell a lot of low value items on Facebook Marketplace and do porch pick up so I don't have to deal with shipping items. It isn't as wide of audience so if you are willing to ship and wait for the perfect buyer who will pay top dollar then list on ebay.. Facebook marketplace is just so easy and I get cash in hand.

I couldn't find it before we left on our last trip either so I just held my breath and prayed nothing sold.

I couldn't figure out how to do vacation settings either under the free listings option. Instead, I opened a store (the cheapest one) and that offers vacation settings along with unlimited listings. That appeared to be the only way to handle the vacation issue.

I've been selling on eBay for years and years. Sometimes it's just stuff we have around to purge... Toys, video games, trading cards, etc. Sometimes we flip items from garage sales. Sometimes I don't have anything. But it's a nice thing when I want to make extra money to put towards a vacation.

You can buy and print your postage right from your listing, and I keep a supply of priority mail boxes in my basement so all I have to do is hand it to the people at the post office and that's it.

Larger items like furniture I do on Craigslist.

RE: furniture. My mom passed away and left me with a house full of furniture. I was always a craigslist seller, but now I've found better selling on facebook marketplace.

I used to buy Silver Jeans when they were on Clearance and marked down and turn around and sell them for almost double or triple my money on Ebay. The last two years I have been downsizing and selling items on Facebook Market place. I only sell one or two items at a time, it can get hectic when a lot of people want your item and your private message box gets loaded. You cannot have people bid higher on your item like Ebay.

OMG! yes! I've had as many as 13 people PM for an item (it was a NIB pool filter) in the first 5 mins after I listed it! It's hard to keep track of who should get "first dibs"... the person who PM'ed you first with "is it available?" or the first to reply back saying they are coming to get the item. Then.... there are the people who *definitely* want it but never show up on the day they said they were coming! But, I must say, the majority of my FB Marketplace sales have been positive!

Does furniture typically sell on Craigslist? We are cleaning out my moms house, she just passed a few months ago, and I would love to sell some furniture.

oops how did this get up there??? sorry! Does furniture typically sell on Craigslist? We are cleaning out my moms house, she just passed a few months ago, and I would love to sell some furniture.

I still sell furniture on Craigslist but you might move it faster using Facebook Marketplace depending on your area. I have been posting to both at the same time.

We have 2 matching bedroom sets from the 50's that are big sellers in the midwest etc but the Pacific Northwest isn't so game. I think the shipping would be a hard one! Thanks for the advice!

I am also sellling the contents of my mom's house. I have found more success on FB Marketplace than on craigslist.
