driving all day to WDW? What time did you arrive and when/where was your ADR? This is what I'm thinking about....drive all day (approx. 10 hrs.) and have dinner at 'Ohana at approx. 7:30. Is this insane? This is our first time at the World. I kinda wanted to make our arrival special. Be honest. If this is too much too soon, tell me. :confused3 Thanks!

PS~ We'll be staying at ASMo that night. To make travel to the Poly fast and efficient I thought we should drive there. Are the roads around the World easy to understand? How long does it take to get to the Poly from ASMo?

We also drive approx 10 hours, & I always plan a special dinner. Sometimes I am a little tired, but the kids love it. We love to start our trip at 'Ohana, I would make a ressie though, because they book up fast.

Never driven down, but I can tell you that after a day of air travel (and a night of not much sleep from excitement and an early flight), we've been VERY hungry when we arrive and I think an all-you-care-to-eat sit-down is a great idea...in fact, we finally figured this out this year and are planning CP for our first night.
I agree, you'll be tired, but you'll also probably be ready for some fun and food!

we are taking the red-eye flight and will arrive at wdw probably around mid morning. assuming our room isn't ready (most likely) we won't be taking a nap, and we have ressie's at Boma for 6pm!

i do not think you are crazy at all. :) have fun.

We made a 7:30pm ADR for Whispering Canyon on the first day of our Christmas week vacation last year - drove down from suburban Philly. We did spend the night on the road (in a motel) but left early and still got delayed in traffic to the point where we didn't even check into Ft. Wilderness til almost 7pm - 3 and a half hours after I'd planned. :earseek: WCC was really great about rescheduling us - we needed a good meal after all that driving! (and it was a good meal)

I figure this was a lot of pixie dust for our first night. Didn't originally want to plan a late ADR, but maybe I should have factored in more traffic time.

We drove down last March from north central Illinois- took about 22 hours, drove all night with very minimal stops only for gas & bathroom breaks. We knew we had dinner reservations at 5:00 for Chef's de France.....I think it was a great way to keep us on track during the drive. No extra stops, etc - we knew we didn't want to miss dinner! Anyway, we arrived around noon, took a nap for a couple hours, and hit Epcot for dinner. It was a great way to spend the evening and unwind from the drive. You'll be hungry anyway, so you might as well make dinner plans and have something to look forward to while traveling! :goodvibes

with the Fantasmic pkg for our first evening. We are flying, but usually don't sleep much the night before, and will be waking about 5 am to get to our early morning flight. It is normally a pretty stressful day, but I still am chomping at the bit to get to the parks. I don't know for sure that we will be up to a scheduled TS, but now my thoughts are leaning towards this being a good idea. Who wants to start picking out a CS and waiting on crazy lines the evening of arrival? Better to have a fun dinner ready and waiting, and we'll have the FDP to boot (so no waiting in the Fantasmic theatre for 1.5 hours before the show)! Win-win situation!

We usually leave at 8 p.m. drive 12 hours straight through, get to Sea World at 8 or 9, spend all day there, leave, check in at our resort, and go eat dinner somehwere. On our last trip we flew but on all of our previous trips this is what we've done and none of us (four adults) ever had a problem. We were a little tired when we arrived at Sea World but then we all got a huge second wind that lasted all day. We usually eat at DTD (like HOB) but last time we ate at Cali Grill at 8 p.m. We love it this way. Our next trip we are going to leave a day earlier and stay in a hotel close to Sea World overnight and then go to Sea World the next morning and do our usual routine, as we're all starting to get older and the late nights get to all of us the older we get. That and I don't want to kill my boyfriend who will be going with us for the first time :teeth: .

If you do this get ready for a GREAT nights sleep. Half of the time I never even remember getting in bed but it feels sooooooo good to lay down!!

We drive down from NY, it takes us usually 20 hours, little stops, two drivers. The kids LOVE that when we arrive we jump right in. I have dinner reservations and it is an EMH evening at Epcot. We can't wait. If you're crazy, join the club.

I can't decide what to do. We're staying at ASMo when we arrive so it would probably be better to DRIVE to 'Ohana in case we're pressed for time rather than depend on Disney transportation to get us there on time....which means MORE DRIVING. The next morning I want to get up at 8:00, check-out of ASMo and run over to the WL and (hopefully) check-in. THEN, at 10:30, I'm planning breakfast at Chef Mickey's. THEN, I have to go get my AP activated. Then, it's gonna be down time until 5:00 when we have to go to the MK and have dinner at LTT @ 5:40 (if I can't get anything sooner before then). THEN, it's gonna be a l-o-n-g night as we'll have MVMCP. It just seems like a lot to do before MVMCP since we won't be sleeping in that morning (the morning after we arrive). Then again, I think that we'll all be running on adrenaline and Disney's MagicEnergy just because we finally made it to WDW after so much fantasizing.....ahem, mostly on my part. Anyone else want to add anything?

The only thing to add is that you are VERY ambitious! Just reading about all you are doing is making ME tired!!! Sounds like a great plan!

Go ahead and enjoy your meal at Ohonna's

Just think...you'll be so excited about being in the world, you'll want to get out and do something! Best thing would be a great meal and a view of the castle! Go for it!

We have have about a 16 hour journey all in (incluiding getting the the airport) and a sit down meal, in a great location, is a great idea. The only thing I owuld say is make sure it is not too tight on time, you do not want to have to rush to make the time.

Make sure you make your ADR. Last year I tried to make one while on the road for Boma's and there wasn't one to be had. We are checking in at VWL and going to Ohana's too.
