Anyone LOVE Candy (not caramel) Apples???

Where in DTD is the Cauldron located? I don't remember seeing it on our last trip. Thanks! :wave2:

First to PP, Candy Cauldron is located between West Side (movie theaters) and Pleasure Island..kind of in the middle. I LOVE this store! I love the Disney Villains and candy, so this store is my cup o tea.

Inner Strength..question. I have tried and tried to make the candy apples with the kit from the supermarket. Is it the one in the box that you use? Mine never seems to harden correctly, always too chewy which I can't stand in a candy apple. Any advice?? I would love to make them for my kids for Halloween...thanks!

On our last trip I stopped in Goofy's at DTD just as we were leaving to go home. I picked up two of the huge caramel apples and we all split it up and ate it on the way home. My kids don't like the candy apples, so that's why I went for the caramel ones. Maybe this trip I'll get them a caramel one to share, and a candy one for me!

My DH loves candy apples! So much that for our 10/27 wedding we had candy and caramel apples for favors! He will love that we can get them in WDW. Seems that all you hear about are the caramel ones!

My sister (who also lives in SWVA by the way) had an odd wedding dessert as well. She did not have a wedding cake at all - not even one for them to cut and share. She had PIES. All different flavors of pies. And I have to admit that they were really delicious and enjoyed by everyone. Sometimes its good to shake it up a bit! I'd love to have a good candy apple at a wedding reception!

I use a kit put out by Concord Foods called "Candy Apple Kit" (pretty original, huh). I have the apples washed, dried, at room temperature and have the sticks in before I start cooking the syrup. I also put waxed paper on my cookie sheets and spray a little PAM on the waxed paper - this is where I place the apples after I dip them. I follow the directions on the box and usually make 2 batches at once in the same pan. It's important to use a candy thermometer and allow the syrup to reach the hard crack stage before you dip your apples. If the syrup does not reach the proper temp. and you still dip the apples, the coating will not become hard and the result will be a soft, sticky coating like you mentioned. Also, once the syrup reaches the hard crack stage, take it off of the heat or lower your heat to "low" or your syrup may scortch. Once it burns, it's no good - I've burnt a batch and it nearly broke my heart, LOL. Once cooled, I wrap them in waxed paper and tie them with those little twisty ties that I do not use from the trash bags that I buy. Once I had no twist ties and I just used thin ribbon, but it was more time consuming. They are best eaten within 2 days since the candy starts to melt near the area where the stick punctures the apple. The company that makes the kit has a site, concordfoods.com, however I do not think you can purchase the kits from the site. I have used the same kit for years and the only time I had a problem was when I walked away from the stove for 3 seconds and my batch of syrup burned. Other than that, it's easy and worth the work.

So much for posting with great detail....I need that :rotfl2: . I guess I may not have had a correct candy thermometer or just messed up with that part, because that's how it sounds like mine came out...not hard enough.

I am off to family bingo night at my son's school, then right off to the market to try and make them.

Thanks again, I'll keep you posted how they turn out! :wave2:

I like candy apples in the summer and caramel apples in fall. Now I'm so bad that I melt caramels in the microwave and slice apples and eat them like chips and dip. Yum!

I had a caramel apple on the Boardwalk at WDW once and it was awful. The caramel was not chewy - it was disgusting. I've been afraid to have any there since.
