I have been trying, to no avail I might add, to get my husband to move to Orlando for about 7 years (started in on that two years before we got married!) but he just won't go. Now, we have family in Sarasota and I was showing him some pictures and he "almost" seems interested. :)

His company is going to be moving in July and he is not sure he wants to work where they are going so he may be in for a job change anyway. I am working p/t at a law firm in what I would call a "throw away job"...its in my field but its part time with no benes so its not someplace I expect I will stick around for the long haul, just til my little guy gets a bit older. Anyway, with all of this job shifting, I would love it if I could make it in Florida!

Can anyone tell me what you love (and hate even) about your city?

I grew up in Sarasota and wish we could move back, but DH is pretty firmly planted here on FL's east coast. It is a city with a lot of culture: art museums, symphony halls, opera house, ballet. Most of the schools are great. I love the beaches on Siesta Key, the sand is like white baby powder! The only bad thing I can think of is the traffic in the winter during "tourist season." It's just noticably more crowded. It's nice being near the water - the Gulf of Mexico is usually warm and the sunsets are beautiful. Further inland, there is also Myakka State Park which is a natural preserve where you can picnic, canoe, etc.

I moved to Florida to live in the south west area. I chose Fort Myers and loved it. For work I covered the counties of Sarasota and De Soto. Sarasota is lovely.

The weather is warmer there, the people are nicer there, and I simply like it better there. It is a little less expensive to live there, too. (versus Orlando).

I'll be going back one day. Not soon enough for me, but return I shall!

The beaches on Siesta Key are in the top 10 of the world year in and year out.

Anyone else? So far so good. I don't think that traffic could compare to what we have here in Seattle!
