Anyone know when Food Rocks is officially closing?

Here here for Kitchen Cabaret! I loved that show... I think it tainted me against ever fully accepting Food Rocks... I missed the ol' Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit and more 40/50's style of music. My sister has that show / it songs on a cassette tape Kraft (sponsors of it) produced and sold at the show. I think she also has a magnet with the Broccoli drummer. Ahhh, the good ol' days. I remember how absolutely bummed I was when it disappeared... right around same time that Kodak FINALLY got rid of Captain E-O (now THAT I was thankful for! That show just doesn't compare to the new Kodak show... Nigel is just hilarious.. and I always cry at the Kodak "true Colors" pre-show. I'm such a sap!)

My kids really enjoyed Food Rocks, and DH and I thought it was pretty cute (what with Fud Wrapper, and the Peter Gabriel Peach, etc. -- really more music from dh's and my youth than from our kids, so most of the novelty was right over their heads!) BUT... I found the show to be incredibly, incredibly LOUD. SOmething about that theater just screams at you -- like you have the woofer and tweeter on either side of your head. Gave me a headache the last time. And though the park was moderately filled that day, the theater for Food ROcks was sparsely populated (basically... just our party of 8!)

My kingdom for a repeat performance of the Kitchen Kabaret gang...

It's sad that Food Rocks has turned into one of the "forgotten attractions". If it is replaced, it will be missed by few. I'll miss it because it is from my time and I really got a kick out of how silly it is.
The last few times we saw it, the auditorium was sparsely populated. I really think that many people don't even know it's there.

It seems so dated to me. I mean Fudd Wrapper?!? LOl When was Tone Loc? last popular?
OK, I remember Kitchen kaberet but I still cna't recall what it looked like. I've just totally blanked. I guess I need to pull out soem old videos and see if hubby taped any of it. (he was bad about that, TAPING EVERYTHING... ) But at least we have Horizons on tape. I loved that.

Yes, ol' Tone Loc is dated... to be precise, circa roughly 1988. I know this b/c I was in Australia (1989 to 1990), and he was the singing act at a club down the street. I recall hearing him and thinking then, "Does he have any other songs beside Wild Thing?" and also thinking that if his "big act" now consisted of a weeknight gig at a little pub, he must be dropping quickly off the US charts....

As for Kitchen Kabaret, think Andrews sisters (Boogie Woogie Bugle Bread from Toaster Slot B... or something like that); think nostalgia tunes (versus pop rock). And think of a broccolli playing the drums.... A-ringin' any bells? I think nostalgia tunes work much better -- you could resurrect Kitchen Cabaret and it would still be good today. But Food Rocks is indeed quite dated.... just like Captain EO (ugghhhhhhhhhh!)

I like the music selections they use in Food Rocks. To me it has a nostalgic appeal to it. :)

I loved Kitchen Kabaret (I still have my Broccoli Head magnet!) and I love Food Rocks. An update is in order, but I would really miss it if it goes.

What is Soarin?

So, there's no clear word on Food Rocks staying open or closing, correct?

I miss Kitchen Kabaret. When we went for our honeymoon I had no idea it was changed, and drove my hubbie up the wall the day I found out. Food rocks is ok, but Kitchen Kabaret is so much better. The Timon and pumba show was new since when I used to go as a kid, and it was beautiful. I am still happy figment is back. SO I will let food rocks go as long as figment stays.

I would also like to know what soarin' is.

This is the latest rumor from Screamscape

2005 - Soarin’ Over California - Rumor - (8/22/03) A local spy tells me that they saw what looked like the first pieces of a construction wall going up between The Land and Imaginational pavilions today. Adding to this, another reader has said that it looks like Food Rocks will close down for good sometime in September. Anyone know more?

Soarin' Over California is a theatre-style attraction at DCA where the audience is lifted up off the floor in "hang glider" type seats, and "flown" over scenic views of California that are shown on a HUGE screen. Its great!

So is Soarin' a thrill ride or a simulator? Is is even slightly scary? The reason I ask is I'm a MAJOR wimp, LOL!

It's unlike anything else I've ever been on. There are three rows of seats. There is no floor so your legs will swing freely below you, giving you the feeling that you are suspended. As the attraction starts the three rows are raised into a huge IMAX-type screen. You then feel like you are flying over whatever is being shown on the screen. At DIsneyland it is "Soarin' Over California" so you "fly" over Yosemite, Napa Valley, San Francisco, the coast, Pebble Beach, the giant sequoias, Disneyland, etc. It is very, very cool and absolutely amazing.

I didn't find it at all scary as you are firmly seated and buckled in. I suppose if you don't like heights the idea of flying over things might not appeal to you, but other than that it wasn't scary at all, IMO. I am excited to learn that it will be coming to WDW.

Did it make you feel sick?
Six Flags used to having nen of those large screen films with mountains, ect. and it always made me feel queasy.
This sounds a little similar to that Back to the Future Ride at Universal. (In a simulator in front of a large screen.)
Is that ride still there?
