Will it be impossible to get a meal in a restaurant in a park in June w/ social distancing measures? Wondering if anyone has seen anyone else's experience with this since they've opened back up. We are thinking about going to US but wondering if eating will be a nightmare while there. Wondering about both quick service and regular restaurants. Thanks

We were there this past week. Tables are set apart, and all restaurant employees wear masks. Menus are limited in scope, but everyone is happy to see you there and grateful to see customers return. This was true both for Orlando restaurants and restaurants at Universal

Thanks! Was it hard to get into the ones in the parks? We saw and read that on the preview days the counter service places had very long lines and no places to sit b/c there aren't as many tables.

Florida was still in phase 1 during the previews, with only 25% capacity allowed inside restaurants. That changed the same Friday to phase 2/50%.

We had no problems getting into Orlando restaurants (Saltgrass Steakhouse, IHOP, etc.). At Universal, I strongly recommend reservations. We were able to make reservations at the park full-service restaurants (Finnegans, Lombards, etc.) and also at the Hard Rock Cafe. Places at Citywalk like Toothsome that didn't have reservations available invariably had long lines, although we were able to drop in to Margaritaville and Bubba Gump's at 'odd hours'.

We only did mobile order in the parks once because it was such a mess. The ordering process is confusing, they don't have everything on the menu (for example, we couldn't get 'side of fries' or 'cup of water' without a TM helping us and manually adding it to our order). Then our order took 30 minutes to be delivered to our table, and they got it wrong. Then we had to send the TM back for salt packets and straws... why weren't these included? It was the only part of our Universal trip that did not go smoothly. After that one terrible experience, we stuck with table service (and the occasional beverage cart).

We are here now and the restaurants at IOA we’re packed today. Everything had a long wait and we ended up just eating Auntie Anne’s for lunch. It was super frustrating since they don’t do any reservations and is all walk up. I guess we are just used to making dining reservations at Disney and always having a plan on where we are going to eat.

I was able to make reservations at Mythos when we went this past Tuesday. We walked out to NBC Grille about 30 minutes before parks closed so ahead of the rush into City walk.

Did you do this before you got to the park or go there in the morning and make a reservation? We tried to get into Mythos today around 2 pm and they didn’t have anything available until 4 pm.

Anyone go to city walk restaurants?
Bubba Gumps?

Was that to full around lunchtime or not too bad?

So, I was looking at reservations and it looks like all the City Walk restaurants are completely booked through July, but there was availability in park. Does that seem right?

We were thinking of switching from Disney to here but this makes me not want to now. So what if you are a resort guest w/ priority dining? How does that work?

I’m not sure they Citywalk resturants are taking reservations right now. The website says they are not currently taking reservations. I think that applies to the ones they use Zomato. Hard Rock Cafe uses open table and they have reservations open for most nights in July.

In the past, I've walked up to a restaurant on Citywalk, asked for a reservation, mentioned where I was staying, and the wait time (even with a large party during busy times of the year at popular restaurants) has only been about 20 minutes. I usually take that time to browse their gift shop. Of course, I also usually eat at earlier times. We typically eat around 5pm.

In the park, once the restaurant is open, you can make a reservation that day. Again, I have gone there with a 7 person party at a popular restaurant during busy times of the year, and gotten in (Mythos, Cowfish, Anjolitos.) I was told that Universal doesn't care for people who are not already in the parks making park restaurant reservations because of people that don't show up.

Having done both Disney and Universal, I think Universal is kinda hard for the Disney folks to wrap their heads around. In order to have fun at Disney, you typically have to have every hour of every day planned out in advance - park, meals, ride reservations, etc. The parks at Universal are much smaller. Walking from one end of the other, not to mention one park to the other, is not much of a chore (even if you're out of shape like me.) Walking to Citywalk is not a chore. So setting an alarm on your phone to head to your desired restaurant when it opens (typically 11am) to make a reservation for that day is not a chore. In fact, during normal circumstances, more often than not you could easily walk up to your restaurant of choice when you're ready to eat and get a reservation with less time spent waiting than you'd spend waiting for your food to be prepared at a quick service meal location.

That being said, I have never found priority seating to be a thing. I have actually had restaurant staff (Citywalk restaurants) look at me in confusion when I've mentioned it. For the restaurants that take reservations, you can easily make them at the guest services desk in your onsite hotel, so perhaps that's why it's called priority seating? I think there is also a reservations desk set up outside of Confisco Grill, but again, the reservation policy really depends on the restaurant. It is always easiest just to head to your restaurant of choice on that day and make a reservation, especially for in park restaurants. Think of it kinda like the VQ process for Hagrids, as most of the slots are done by reservation by people actually in the park or on Universal property that day, with some reservations each day left available for walk-ups, and others becoming available when people don't show up for their reservations times.

I haven't been to the parks since they reopened, so I'm not sure how COVID-19 will affect this. But with limiting overall park capacity, I'm not expecting it to suddenly become an issue once they have time to work out the kinks and get used to the "new normal." We easily got a table for 4 at Finnegans at 4pm in September during HHN. Finnegans is considered prime seating during this time because of it's ability to sit down in the AC, have a drink, and just relax while being positioned next the popular Houses while waiting for Universal to clear everyone (non HHN attendees) out and HHN to start. So, I know things are a little crazy right now, but I'm expecting it to be fine.

I will be there tomorrow, so we'll see.

Did you like it? The last time I went it wasn’t good.

You can get QS gyros nearby that I found to be pretty decent.

We usually hit both Harry Potter restaurants, so that we can get frozen butterbeer for lunch. It really hits the spot when it’s hot out.

What I like to do is grab a Starbucks breakfast at Citywalk in the morning, hit one of the Harry Potter restaurants for lunch, then I’ll hit one of the Disney resorts for dinner. I’ve had good luck except for California Grill. This would be my plan when Disney reopens. For Disney rides I’d rather go to DL.

How is the drive between Universal and Disney? We have $3,500 refunded on Disney gift cards from our canceled trip since we were scheduled before they opened. We moved over to Universal. Since the parks close so early we have tossed around going over to Disney Springs for dinner a few times to use gift cards and save some money out of pocket. Just don’t know if it will be a pain multiple nights.

Its not too bad, 20 minutes or so. I am in the same situation, and was thinking the same thing. We will not have a car so we will be ubering back and forth.

If there’s not much traffic, as pp said, about 20mn. Check googlemaps for traffic before leaving.
