Anyone know of any good Fantasy authors?

Wow, thanks for the suggesstions I just printed out a rather large list to take with me to the library next week.

I have read the Nora Roberts series that someone mentioned//BIg Nora Roberts fan here..I love romance, mystery..I like almost any kind of book, I used to be really into the true crime as well but I find myself drawn to fantasy.

Thanks again everyone.

I know these are for kids, but how about the Bunnicula series by James Howe? Besides, you can't go wrong w/a vampire rabbit. :teeth: Also, the Narnia books by C.S. Lewis as well.

Piers Anthony his Xanath series and his incarnation series is really good too. I wish it was more then 7 books.

Anne McCaffrey's Pern series. Both awesome series... until you run out of books to read! :smooth: I always re-read them ;0)

Anne McCaffrey's are wonderful - even those that are more sci-fi than fantasy.

Chelsea Quinn Yarbro - She has a series of books about Count St Germain, vampire. They are set in various historical times and really are enjoyable to read. I read Blood Roses first and then headed back to the library to read all her books. Here's a review off of Amazon.com

Review

"Earns its place as a read that is at once historically enlightening as well as sinfully adventurous. The account of the vampire's life intertwined with Old World history will satisfy the appetite of the most thirsty adventure seeker. This is one vampire novel that will leave the reader wanting more. Humanity, kindness and wit all combine to make Yarbro's vampire a most convincing character."--Rapport on Come Twilight

Do you mean Katherine Kurtz? The one who wrote the Deryni series? If so, I agree -- she's quite good. Would also second (or third) David Eddings and Terry Brooks. It's a shame -- I really liked to read this stuff when I was younger, but it just seems like I have no time for books anymore. I'm lucky to finish the newspaper on the day it comes out (although, frankly, these days, some of the stuff in there seems like a fantasy novel too).
Nope, but she's good too. They are close, though.

I mean Katherine Kerr, who does the Deverry series. I actually like it better than the Deryni series.

:thumbsup2 I'll second that! Lover her "Valdemar" series! :thumbsup2 Start with the "Arrows" trilogy.

I used to love Mercedes Lackey's books when I was in high school. I just haven't had a chance to sit down and read much since then.

If you like romance/ fantasy you should try:

Christine Feehan's Dark Hunter and Ghostwalker series
J.R. Ward's Dark Lover and Lover Eternal
Sherrilyn Kenyon writes some vampire romances that are okay, but not nearly as good as Ward and Feehan.

I just finished a great book by Susan Squires called The Burning, about a vampire and a girl with ESP, it was very good but could almost be classified as erotica, so if you don't like that sort of thing you may want to skip it. lol

I read a ton of books and fit fantasy and romance in when my brain needs a rest from the heavier material.

I used to like Nora Roberts but it seems like the quality of her work has declined in the past five years or so. I don't like any of her books about witches, but I love some of her older novels like The Reef and Montana Sky.

Tad Williams - The Dragonbone Chair series.....

is the BEST set of books I have ever read. My fav fav. there are 4 books.
They are about a boy growing up and coming of age while fighting evil.

very hobbit/harry potter. He is friends with an elven type guy who rides a wolf....oh...its a good one !!!

very hard to put down...make sure you get all 4 books at once. they are older and been around a long time. :thumbsup2

I have to put my two cents in for Paolini's Eragon. I haven't had time to read the sequel yet, but I was very impressed with his first.

We're big HP, Narnia, LoTR & Wrinkle in Time fans at our house.
