Anyone know much about home security systems? ADT or Brinks?

We're thinking of getting ADT or Brinks. Anyone have any info on either of these home security systems? We have USAA, and I think we get a discount on ADT, but I wanted to get more info and opinions.

We have USAA and ADT with the discount. Have had it for going on 4 years. We're happy with it.

When we were getting our security system we talked to the State Police to see who they recommended (since they would be the ones responding to our alarm). They told us to avoid any of the national carriers, since they usually give the wrong directions to them and the response time takes longer. They told us to use a local company and we chose the one they recommended. They have been great and when it has been set off by somebody (never us) they have responded quickly. When we loose power they call and when our battery is running low they send a vehicle to check on our house.

I don't know who we use. It isn't ADT or Brinks.

Bad side - ugly (small, but ugly) black boxes up in the corners of the ceiling, with little flashing red lights, the motion detectors. "Beep-beep-beep" every flipping time a door gets opened. Once in a while, someone will forget it is on and come out of their bedroom in the morning and forget to put their code in (and go downstairs), or open a window, and the whole house shrieks! That alarm is much worse than fire alarms.

Good side - I feel more secure when DH is out of town, which he is a lot. We live in a big house out in the middle of nowhere. I couldn scream my head off, nobody would ever hear it.
