Hi,
I thought maybe my fellow Dis'ers would know about bringing food to another country.
I am going to Atlantis(Bahamas) and staying at Comfort Suites. I will have access to to a microwave and was hoping to bring some food on the plane Cooked and some canned stuff to heat up?

Anyone know if Customs allows this. I know it's no problem for WDW but I would hate to cook and lug it and not be allowed in.
I called Southwest and I couldn't get a straight answer.
Thanks
Kerri

For checked baggage you can take about anything except specifically excluded items (firearms, spray cans, etc) and fresh fruits/veggies. You an take packaged items, frozen items, canned things, etc. We were at Atlantis in Feb and we did just this. For carry on the other limitations are related to the requirements on liquids.

When we were there in Feb we stayed at the Cove which was an on the spot upgrade from the towers. Had we known we'd have had a true kitchen, we'd have brought different items. We planned for no kitchen or possibly a microwave/small fridge. We took sandwich meat, bread, danish, condiments, cheese, cereal, oatmeal and the like. We put the cold items in a mid sized cooler in our checked bags. For crushable items, we simply took tupperware containers and put those items inside. We had the room but we would not have paid for additional bags. We were just talking last night planning a trip to Aruba in 2016 about what to take. While not Atlantis prices, Aruba is still fairly expensive overall and crazy on check in days. The last trip to Aruba we took frozen meats as well and they were still frozen solid when we unpacked them.

I take things for 3 reasons: for some savings, to have what I want/need and to minimize the rat race/time in the grocery stores. I do this for anywhere we go to a degree, including HH and Orlando and savings is the least of our issues. Anyone that's been to HH arriving on a Sat and braved the grocery stores can identify I'm sure but it's even worse in Aruba on the usual check in days. I know some roll their eyes when this topic is brought up thinking it foolish to take items but that's their problem. We'll do breakfast in the room most days and usually eat out about once a day on average, maybe a little less on a longer trip to somewhere like HI or Aruba. In part it depends on whether it's just the wife and I or if we have others. The larger the group the less likely we are to eat out. Basically my nature is to plan now so I can be on vacation when we go places.

Restaurants on Paradise Island are few and expensive as a rule. There was a place on the corner right across from the Atlantis shopping area called Anthony's grill, it was good and more reasonable. Johnny Rocket's was pretty good for what it is. Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for all the great info. Real happy to hear I can bring the stuff I wanted.
I have heard the cove is really nice I didn't realize it had a kitchen either.
Buffet brkfst is included at the comfort inn:thumbsup2 and I think there is a Dunkin donuts across the street from the comfort inn. Mostly want to bring stuff for lunch and maybe 1 or 2 dinners and snacks.
Is Anthony's Grill near Johnny Rockets near the Marina?
Thanks

We knew the cove had kitchens but not that we'd been "upgraded". While they never told us what happened, I got the impression they didn't have the room type we'd reserved in the towers. For us it was some good and some bad. I was attending a meeting and this made it further but the shuttle worked pretty well.

Johnny Rockets is on the far end of the Atlantis waterfront shopping/dining complex facing the water. Anthony's is across the street and on the far corner of the block actually closer to you I think. It was the only non Atlantis place we tried on the island. There was another, water front, further down the island that had apparently closed even though their website was still up and running. I forget the name. We did not try the Club Land Or restaurant, the reviews weren't that good. The Atlantis option we enjoyed most was Bimini Road IIRC the name. This cruise internet is too slow to go searching right now.
