Anyone know if the weather is affecting the Magic?

I see that Cayman has tropical storm warnings today, and this storm may head toward Cozumel later in the week. Since the Magic was at Cayman yesterday and Cozumel today I guess things wouild be OK, but I wonder about the seas, etc. and how they can plow through it to get to CC.
My dad is also freaking out, since he has booked us all on the western 7/3/04 and this would be the week! He is thinking of getting the eastern instead since most July storms are in the gulf.
So if anyone has info, please post.

I haven't heard anything, so I don't know for sure, but I would think that the ship will be OK. The storm is still due south of Jamaica, so it's still some 600 miles from Cozumel. The Magic will be heading to Castaway Cay tonight, so while the seas might be a bit rougher, the ship shouldn't have any problems.

I wouldn't let this year's weather affect my decision to sail next year. One really has no bearing on the other. We were once re-routed due to a hurricane in Sept. of 2000, but sailed the same itinerary at basically the same time in both 2001 and 2002 and did not have any problems.

Last year, there was only one storm in July, Arthur, and it was on the Atlantic coast. You really never can tell. If by chance there is a storm in the west next July, the ship will re-route.

The Orlando Sentinel has a good page with lots of hurricane info:

We're on the Magic and haven't seen or felt any signs of the storm. We just docked in Cozumel and the skies are clear and beautiful. From the track of the storm, it looks like we'll be well east of it.

You can never predict when a hurricane/tropical storm is going to hit, especially one year out. Hurricane season runs from June 1st - November 30th, so there is a chance your cruise will be effected. I will say that usually the Gulf area is more active in the earlier season, when the Atlanticside usually kicks in around August. Now, that isn't a for certain, there had been many tropical disturbances that are in the Atlantic early in the season, and the Gulf might have been quiet that year. A couple of years ago, there was HUGE storm sometime in November, usually not an active time. DCL is very good about sailing away from trouble, so if there is something in the area during your cruise, DCL will sail away from it. It may mean you'll go to different ports, or even miss one, but they try their best to keep their passengers safe and out of bad weather.

there was actually an article posted recently about how you're actually better off on a cruise than on land during a hurricane. With the technology they have, the cruise ships know where the hurricane is and can steer clear of it...if you're on land, you're a sitting duck!

Rockn'Robin,

Don't worry. We were on the Western Magic at this time last year and the seas were as calm as glass! Tell Dad not to worry.

We have always cruised in July and the weather was fine...calm seas too....Don't want to say too much though since we're going next week! Here's hoping for smooth sailing!!
