Anyone know if the airlines would search a checked car seat bag?

Last October we flew Air Tran and I wanted to take the stroller for use at WDW but not the airport. I wanted to pack the stroller in it's box and take that way. I knew stroller's were free to check but I didn't know if it included if it was in the box so I emailed Airtran. They wrote back that I could check it free in the box BUT it had to be ONLY the stroller. If I added anything else to the box I would be charged the bag fee. I didn't know how thoroughly they checked the boxes so I complied!

I am glad I took my email with me because the agent at the Airtran desk in Orlando wanted to charge me the fee because the stroller was in the box. Fortunately I had the email to show her or she would have had the manager come out.

We did something similar last August on AirTran. We have a canvas car seat bag with a handle and side pockets meant for protecting the car seat when you check it. It's free to check a carseat with probably every airline. We were afraid one of our suitcases would be over the 50 lbs by a couple of pounds, so I put my wife's toiletry bag inside the carseat bag. No problems, but no guarantee that they won't object.

aside from the valid, previously stated concerns, whatever bag(s) is stuffed into a larger bag (tagged as a carseat/stroller @ the gate) wouldn't be covered under airlines lost bag policy

jik it goes missing, as you won't have a claim ticket for the 'secreted' item.
