I had someone create a vrochure for me and she e-mailed it in PDF format. Now, I need to edit it. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

You need to have the full version of Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer - not just the reader. I don't know many people who have the full version - it's quite expensive. (The reader is available free.)

One of the reasons people create PDF files is to prevent people from making changes to their documents. Can your friend save it in another format - like Word?

PDFs are like pictures, snapshots. There is no direct way to save it as a document, so to speak. You'll need another software to convert PDF to text for editing.

You'll have to pay for most of these tools. See http://www.convertzone.com/pdf2txt/help.htm and see if you can download a trial version.

At the place I worked, we created proposals for work to be done with all the terms of work, etc in Word. It was then saved as a PDF file to prevent the client from making any changes. If your friend originally created the document in Word, she should be able to send that file instead of the PDF. Otherwise, you're stuck needing to purchase software.

Go to http://www.hotfiles.com and search for a pdf editor. You'll probably find a few. Download and install. You'll have no problem editing the document from there and you can still keep it in pdf format.

If you can't get the source file, you can (unless the author protected the file) use the text selection tool in Acrobat Reader, select and copy text, and paste it into another application to work with it.
