I am just wondering how things are going for the smaller airlines and Airtran in particular since we are scheduled to fly on them Dec.13 with a return on the 20th. We are flying out of a smaller city but of course will fly into Atlanta to catch our connecting flight to Orlando.

Of course we don't go till December but was wondering what kind of experience anyone out there has had with Airtran lately? What about carry-ons?? My mother just told me last night of somewhere she had heard that they are considering not even letting anyone take purses on all flights not just Airtran.

Also if anyone has traveled them out of Orlando what was your experience there?

We are departing out of a smaller city and I am concerned that in the near future they will be cancelling certain flights due to the recent tragedy. I of course called Airtran and they said that yes this has effected them but they did'nt plan on cancelling any flights at the time we are going. Of course I know this is what they say now but it all depends on the numbers of people that will still be traveling at that time. If anyone has any information or has heard anything about them I'd love to know! Thanks!:)

not too great from what I understand. they lost a lot too. their stock really dropped. they are cutting flights now as well. they do however fly a fuel effecient aircraft. the 717's are very fuel effecient but their loads are really bad right now. I spoke to my co workers when I was at the airport.

Thanks Beverly Lynn! I knew you would know something about them-hopefully they won't cancel our flight. Anyone else out there who has flown them recently or heard any word?

Hi,

My mom just flew to MCO last wednesday and back this monday. They had no problems, and their flights (from Philly) were very full but not packed. Airtran did manually search their luggage, so plan time for this stuff.......

Thanks Wendy

Are you talking about the luggage that they checked or their carry on luggage. If it's the checked luggage I'll need to decide what to do as we always use special locks on ours. Thanks again for your post!:)

Princess, I'm going to take a wild guess that you are flying out of Bloomington. We are flying down on 10/7 and and back on 10/14. Over the weekend, I noticed that our flight times on the 14th had changed. We were supposed to leave Orlando at 8pm and arrive in Bloomington at 11:30pm. Apparently that last flight into Bloomington was either cancelled or the time was changed, because now we will be leaving Orlando at 6:30 and arriving in Bloomington around 9:30. While I was on the phone with Airtran, she did tell me that flights in and out of Orlando are pretty booked, so she doubted there would be any changes between now and our trip. Also, she said that we are still allowed one carry-on each. What will happen by December is hard to say though.

We've always been happy with AirTran. Once our flight from Orlando to Atlanta was delayed, but they held our connecting flight so we still got home fine. We liked it even better 4 years ago when it was a direct flight from Bloomington to Orlando, but connecting in Atlanta isn't bad.

it looks like they will stop service to and from some cities now. and hopefully they will soon pull out of pittsburgh airport. they ahve had to cancel some flights and put everyone on one flight. its abad all the way around on pretty much most of the carriers.

We fly out on the 7th and come back the 13th. Called them last night to see if syringes were banned from carry ons (my son requires them for a medical condition). I had to get a letter saying that he had to have it with him at all times and they also told me our flight coming home was changed. We have to leave DW 2 hours earlier than planned. So much for lunch. Oh Well.:)

Hi,
THey searched their suitcases at checkin, and then their carryons at the security check point. Myabe you could wait to put your special locks on until after you see if they search your baggage?
