Anyone know anything about tires? Mechanic is closed...

Also a good thing to remember is that a tire is a tire. If you buy it from a high end dealer or a discount warehouse, it is the same tire. No tire company can risk selling their brand name if it is knowingly defective or lesser quality. Lives are at stake here and the consequences can be disastrous not only to the occupants of the car, but, to the company as well.

Where are you buying your tires? I buy 16 inch wide, all season, brand name tires for my Cadillac and have yet to pay more then $450.00 for all four of them put together. Someone is taking advantage of your lack of car knowledge. The internet is your friend in situations like this. Try and know what you are talking about before you make a major investment like that.
I think the bolded is a very presumptuous statement.

For the most accurate read, tire pressure should be taken after the car has not been driven for at least a few hours, parked on an even surface, and in a place where the sun hasn't been beating down on it (such as a garage). Whenever I want to check mine, I'll do it before I leave for work in the morning after my car has been parked in the garage all night. That' a true read since it would have the least amount of influences - if the sun has been on them, it will show higher. If the tires haven't had a chance to cool after being driven on, it will also show higher. I also keep mine at 32psi and they will get as high as 37 after driving on them, being parked in the sun, etc. I'd try to get the most accurate read as I could first, before inflating/deflating any and also before trying to get the dealer to cover the cost of the one that blew.

OK, what would you call it? It appears from the questions and the acknowledgement on their part that they know nothing about cars that this is what may be happening. I'm not sure, just throwing it out there for consideration. It wouldn't be the first time such a thing has happened.

First off, let us know what the cause was when you get it figured out. A couple things, 37 psi is not a high tire pressure So don't worry about that but I would put it back to what is recommended. The reason your new tire was lower is because the guy who put it on probably only filled it up to that since your car is recommended at 32. He was 1 off. The pressure difference detected by your tpms system probably set the light off. Some cars will set the light off. Put them at 32, and drive around for a few miles at a decent speed and it should turn off the light.
