Destiny lost her two front top teeth back in late September. Shortly before that, she had the frenectomy (where they cut the little piece of "skin" that connects the upper lip to the gum).

When she went for her check up in October, the adult ones still hadn't come through and the hygeinist (?sp) said that it could take up to six months for them to come in.

Now, it is March and the adult ones STILL haven't come in. Haven't even broken through the gums. She is set for another check up next month.

Anyone ever have experience with this? I am pretty sure she has her adult teeth as they have done a Pan x-ray on her and they didn't tell me she was missing them.

Does anyone know what might be holding those teeth back? Just wondering.......as I said she does go back in April. I just wanna know now, dog gonnit!

My 8 yo lost his eye teeth 8 months or more ago. He actually wiggled them so much they fell out early. It took about 6 months for the one side to come in, the other side is still a big ole' hole. The dentist said not to worry.

Don't worry- you sound just like me last September!!!

My DD lost both her top front teeth- one mid May and the other early June. By the end of August (six months) the mid May one was poking through but not the other one. DD went to the dentist in Sept for a check up and the dentist said not to worry that by all indications she has a tooth and would do x-rays at the next visit at the end of March (tomorrow actually!). XMas came and went and still no upper tooth- by now the first one is almost all the way down.

Finally- a week ago- just happened to be St Patrick's day- DD says to me- Mom- I can feel my other tooth. Sure enough, it finally made a showing! 10 months after falling out!!! I was astounded it took so long especially since the smaller teeth seemed to just come right in.

Needless to say- we have lots of toothless photos this year!!

Kristy,
Never fear, as long as they are showing up on xrays, they will eventually come down. My youngest DD (now 10) did not have front teeth for 2 1/2 YEARS! She did not lose her 'baby' front teeth early or by accident, the permanent ones just took their good old time coming down. Once they broke the surface(within a few months of eachother), they came in pretty quickly and nicely, but what long wait!!! My dentist assured me that it IS unusual but does happen. It was a very long 2 years...

FWIW, the rest of her teeth came in 'normally'...

Wow. I never realized they could take so long!! All my other kids had their teeth already poking through when they lost the other ones! Guess I'll just have to keep cutting the corn off her cob for awhile!:p

hOW BAD WAS THAT???? My daughter who is almost 7 may need that done????

It was not as bad as I thought it would be! She had some oozing of blood after so she had to hold gauze in her mouth for a bit. She thought that was yucky. As far as discomfort, regular tylenol seemed to hold her pretty good. She bumped it once on something and that hurt her (she cried), but otherwise, she did well. She was 6 when she had it done. Bradley and Brittany also had it done and Selena is next in line.

They did Destiny's right in the dentist's office. They swab her gum with topical analgesic and then gave her shots of novocaine. She also used the "gas". She had absolutley no problems with the actual procedure.

Yep, my other 2 children (older than her) didn't have any problems either. As a matter of fact, my son DID lose one of this front teeth prematurely (a fall) and his permanent one came in pretty quickly after that considering the unnatural timing of losing it (maybe a few months). I think another factor was that since she couldn't bite down in the front, she really didn't have the resistance- from hard foods pressing on her gums- that maybe helps facilitate the new ones to come in (but that is my laymans theory).

Yeah, keep on cutting the corn and the apples...hopefully it won't be nearly as long as we waited, it sure looked funny having a few years of 'toothless' school pictures! She was missing those teeth so long, she outgrew the typical toothless 'lisp/whistle'!
