Anyone know anything about Lava Lamps?

Well my son must have knocked over the lava lamp (thank god it didn't break) because it's all cloudy now. Looks like the "lava" has broken up into a bunch of tiny little pieces. Is it ruined? Or will it all just settle as it cools off?

I have a couple of lava lamps. It should be fine unless he broke the glass on the lava lamp itself. But I would let it cool off and then warm it back up tomorrow. The lava should mold back together.

I kinda got the giggles here just thinking that you have your lava lamp out and on display. Was it in the family room or the formal living room?

Groovy! :hippie:

Well I have mine up in my bonus room with my 7 guitars and amps and all of that, so it kind of fits. :rockband:

hi
whats wring with lava lamps  i find mine just as soothing to watch as a tank of goldfish. sadly i can remember when they very first came on the scene!

I had one too until my kid decided to switch the liquid. It broke.
I used to babysit and watching the lava lamp was entertaining and soothing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The lamp should be fine. :)

Hee hee. No it's in my son's rooms. But, not anymore. I'm just so afraid that he'll break it and I don't even want to think about what will happen if he does. It used to be in my DH's office. Maybe it'll go back there, if it's still working. It looks normal so far. I just turned it on so it will take a while to warm up.

I love Lava Lamps. I had one when I was a fresman in college and I kept it in my window. The sunlight faded it! Duh!. It still worked, but it wasn't as cool with clear liquid. :hippie:

If he shook it while it was on & the lava was hot, it may be unfixable. The lava then mixes with the liquid. My brother did that once. :rolleyes1

If it just got knocked over while it was cold, it should be fine. :flower:

My mom used to turn off the lamp when it was heating up halfway & the lava would just start to rise & make fun sculpture shapes. It would retain the shapes, rather than met back down into a flat pool. :teeth:

That's my take on it as well. The same thing happened to ours and we threw it away since it never went back to normal.

Maybe it has something to do with the material quality. Ours was pretty cheap.
