Anyone know anything about Easy Bake Ovens?

Does anyone have any suggestions for me regarding an Easy Bake Oven for my DD6? I think I can get one really inexpensive on BF but the thought of paying almost $5 for each little "mix" doesn't really fit in the budget. Has anyone used portions of whole cake mixes or cookie mixes in the ovens, or have anyother creative ideas? I feel bad since I sort of talked her into putting it on her list for Santa and now she really wants one.

Thanks!

I just buy the Pillsbury cookie dough that's tube shaped and my daughter makes cookies with them all the time. If I have extra frosting lying around she'll put some of that on it. She got one of those big baking sets from a fried for her b-day one year that has several different mixes in it and honestly, they were horrible! :crazy2: She much prefers the Pillsbury.

Those Jiffy mixes work.

I just bought it for my boys (the 4 year old asked for it) and I also bought a cookbook that's on amazon.com that's specifically for easy bake ovens. Do a search there and you should find a few. The one I ordered is called Cooking With Mommy or something like that.

My DD6 wants an Easy Bake as well. Where are you finding the best prices for BF? I'll be heading out and have no clue what the best prices on this are as I thought they were no longer made.

If you have the Target coupon book you can get the oven and a free set of mixing bowls right now. My Mom went ahead and bought that. It was about $17? I think and she got the extra set of baking stuff.

Thanks for the idea about the cookie dough! I'll be sure to have some around on Christmas day.

GET THE LIGHT BULB!!!!! Just so you know the oven does not come with the light bulb so make sure you have one so you are not left on Christmas morning with an easy bake oven that your children can't cook with.

I was shocked that the easy bake oven did not come with a heat source...kinda the point :confused3

That would be my luck!! Thanks for the heads up :thumbsup2 Does anybody have any ideas between the one that Target has and the one Walmart has advertised for BF? I didn't see those (Walmart's) in the store today to check them out. I'm thinking that it's not really safe if the stove part warms up. I can only imagine the burns, UGH.

::yes:: That's what I used in my easy bake oven......about 25 years ago, but it should be the same. Most of my "cakes" got eaten before they were baked, but that's another thread!

:rotfl2: I was going to say..worked for me 15 years ago, and my half-sisters 20+ years before that. ;)

I agree about the different Easy Bake mixes. It was so bad my dd refused to use it again. :( It is weird that it is just a light bulb that bakes the food. I thought my really old Easy Bake oven had a "real" heat source. We ended up giving the oven and a bunch of the mixes to one of her classmates. Her friend had always wanted one. Hope she had better luck!

I remember getting the Easy Bake oven the first year it came out (we literally BEGGED Santa for it!! LOL!!!) and it had a lightbulb for a source even then.

I remember my sister and I using ALL the packets the very first day. What a mess!! Some of it was good but some was downright YUKKY!

Nevertheless, I was up early one Black Friday standing in line for it at ToysRUs because it was on sale for $10! I had the excuse that I was buying it for my 4yo son... (he NEVER asked for it) and stood by my story!

I end up giving it to my niece's daughter  ... but we had fun with it Christmas day!

LOOOOOve the EZ bake oven!!

My DD7 got one last Christmas and about 7 mixes. She has used 2 of the mixes and could not eat what she made. They are HORRIBLE!!! It is currently boxed up and waiting for the next yard sale. They are just not worth it in my opinion! :thumbsup2

Great story, Robin! Love the link too! I checked out the pictures of the Easy Bake ovens through the years.... Guess what? I don't see my oven! I wonder if my mom gave me a toaster oven on the sly! :rotfl2:

We bought DD the deluxe set from Costco for $25. It comes with the oven and I think 6 mixes and the bowl set.
I've always wanted one, and now I get to live my dream thru my DD5! :rotfl2: I can't wait for Christmas!! :rotfl:
