Just drove through there.

It's in the mountains. :teeth: The scenery is beautiful.

That's about it. Sorry.

I live less than an hour from there. Nice area and like others have said beautiful mountains. I also worked at a company that had one of their plants located in Bedford and made many trips there. Most all the people are very nice and very small town feel. Every year they have a Bedford Fall Folk Festival and we always go.

What else are you interested in?? Schools, Crime Rates etc....????

yes! We are starting to research things there. Relocation is a real possibilty, so we are interested in housing prices, schools, churches (Lutheran), etc.

It's historic or has a historic section. I drove through there once but can't remember much. REI's a good company. I'm glad PA will be a part of it. We tried to buy Christmas presents from there because they have so much Made in the USA stuff.

Schools are fairly small. In the town I live in they are smaller but I'm sure compared to most ours is extremely small. My DD's class has around 80 kids in her entire grade.

Housing Prices vary, there are a lot of very old historic houses in that area, there are also several other towns that are very close some are bigger and some smaller ones. Not sure if you want to commute, but Altoona, PA is a bigger one, Everett is smaller and closer just 15 - 20 minutes at the most. Also there is Winber, Johnstown, Conemaugh. Bedford is located right along the PA Turnpike. I would say nice (not fancy) houses run anywhere from 175,000 up.

Their newpaper is the Bedford Gazette. www.bedfordgazette.com

Not sure about churches, but I am sure there are several in the Bedford area.

I really think it is a nice area, but of course I'm used to the small town, out in the country areas.

I grew up around Johnstown and my parents still live there. I don't know if you think like this or not, but when I look at other areas, I consider the possibility of other jobs should I lose the job or not like it. In Johnstown, the job market is not good and my mother says it is getting worse. Bedford has never been a hotbed of jobs, either, so I would imagine the situation might be the same there.

You can get houses with land there and you will definitely get the small town/rural feel, depending on where you live.

Thanks for the info! This is exactly the kind of info we are looking for. The small town feel sounds wonderful. My DH has been with REI for 20 years, so we are pretty confident he would stay with the job.
Thanks again! We sure appreciate the info!

Can't help you with any info - but Bedford is a very beautiful town to visit! We've stayed there a couple of times for business.

And - we love REI! They just opened a new store in Pittsburgh, about 2 miles from my DD's college apartment. In fact, I got a fantastic deal on Rossignol skis and bindings for my DS for Christmas! We've also ordered lots of hiking boots and camping items from REI.

Hi...just saw your post...we live In Hollidaysburg....just 30 minutes away from Bedford!!!

My father has a hunting cabin in Bedford where we also spent many summer weekends. If you enjoy outdoor activities, Bedford is a great place. Hunting, of course is a huge past time. The first day of buck season is considered a holiday in these parts. Canoeing, fishing, and swimming along the river. Raystown Lake is nearby with any kind of water sport including scuba diving. Also, hiking, camping, skiing, golf.

Bedford is a sleepy, bedroom community. But, in the last decade or so, they are growing and being revitalized. More industry is moving in, so more jobs, more homes and more people.

Thanks for the new responses! We are getting more and more serious about this now! Our DD's are warming up to it too! It sounds like an excellent area to be in!
Kycha- we are real outdoors people, so all the activities(except hunting) sound great!
