Anyone know about Disney in Myrtle Beach?

I hear that Disney is going into Myrtle Beach. I was told that the resort area where the rides and the college kid hang-outs were is being demolished and that Disney has something to do with rejuventating this area. Possible new DVC Resort :cool1: ??

Not to be mean, but I seriously hope this isn't true. There's already a DVC @ Hilton Head...so who needs one at Myrtle Beach? I'm sure it's a very nice area, but I'm anxiously awaiting an annoucement for Hawaii or California!

I wouldn't be so sure it is a nice area. Myrtle Beach is pretty seedy in LOTS of areas. Certainly not in line with the classy location of HH and VB that Disney has chosen in the past. MB is a budget beach destination. Very doubtful.

In fact I doubt any off site DVC 's as the others failed miserably from a sales standpoint.

p.s. I wouldn't consider California off site. It would be on site for Disneyland. That will happen..... soon IMO.

This is the company that owns the Pavilion: http://www.burroughschapin.com/

I bet they will put up more of the high-rise condo's that are blanketing the area.

I think that is a pretty safe bet. An FWIW, we took the kids to the Pavilion this summer for a "last fling" prior to its closing and it was time for it to go. I have wonderful memories there from my childhood and teenage years, but it, like many other things, was just not the same. Burroughs & Chapin had not spent much $$$ in its upkeep recently and the place was looking pretty bad. The water smelled so putrid that I didn't want the children on the log flume and several of the rides were not operational. I'm sure another hotel/condo would be more profitable for B&C in that location.

I grew up vacationing in North Myrtle Beach and went to the Pavilion many times as a child. We took our kids in August just so they could say they had been. We left after about 45 minutes, it was really slummy. They will need to clean up the enitre area not just the Pavilion itself in order for it to ever be a nice area in my opinion. I cannot see Disney putting anything in that location.

From a member standpoint more choices are a good thing as long as they are resorts that enough of the members would use and MB is certainly as or more viable than HH, probably more so. I seriously doubt a HI DVC option and have doubts about CA as well given space considerations though I know DVC would love to have a real presence there.

Same co that owns Broadway @ Beach & several other developments/attractions. We heard about it when we visted summer of '05.

Sad reality but, the mom & pop of hotels are fading away, developers are offering big bucks. Must admit we like the mega-resorts @ MB with fantastic poolscapes...always thought WDW resorts couldn't compare.

There was an announcement of a Hard Rock amusement park/concert venue & hotel complex around the same time to go in where the Wacamaw Pottery stands, not sure what happened to that deal.

IMO, a MB development (ocean front) would be a winner!!! Just hope they wouldn't set it up like HH, which has no allure for us since accomodations aren't directly beach front.

They could easily rehab an existing resort (most large have studio & 1 & 2 BR layouts aleady) & DVC brand it.

The Hard Rock amusement park started construction this past summer. It's schedule to open for the summer of 2008.

I really don't see Disney rehabing an older hotel in Myrtle Beach.

The site where the Pavilion is/was is not ocean front, its across the street from the ocean. The site is large enough for a resort, but I can't see B&C selling Disney the property, unless they were part of the ownership. B&C has their own timeshare development at Myrtle Beach, which would be direct competition with thier own.

The company does own the beachfront area (attic club, etc.) across from the Pavillion.

Last time I rec. an offer from them, the only TS they had in the area was non-OF, back by Broadway @ Beach.

While the area around the Pav. is run down, if you head south or north a few miles (MB area is 70+ miles of development) you'd be surprised by the scope of pricey/luxurious accommodations. There is a high-end market that still visits the "red neck riviera" as the locals loving call it, for golf & the entertainment venues.

I wouldn't count it out, especially for those of us up North that tend to fly to the "world". Would make a long drive much more palatabale, it'd be a perfect stopping point to throw in a few days @ the beach.

I could see maybe A DVC resort south toward Merrils Inlet or up in North Mrytle Beach but dead center of town in that area would not attract the people that buy DVC. IMO, Plus it may look like a large property but thats just because of the location doubt if it would make a nice resort. Just MHO

I'm like-minded:thumbsup2 but, several "monsters" have gone in the area (Beach Resorts, Atlantica, etc.). Perhaps that portion of the beach will "come back" once the throng of people who frequent it disappears.

Do wonder what will become of The Bowery & Mother Fletchers, dumps but, well-known/frequented wateringholes?
