Thought some of you might be able to help me! My DM has to find a place for the dog and the cat to be cared for during our WDW trip this coming November. (9 nights)
We've found the names of a few places but you don't want to send them just anywhere.
Would like to know if there is anyone out there that has a good kennel to recommend (or to warn us against) that would be situated in the Ottawa region (incl. Quebec side)?
I'm fairly certain that others have had this dilemma and maybe some of you could suggest places found in other regions/provinces?
Thanks!
Note: -my mom doesn't want anyone in her house so visiting caretakers wouldn't work for us!

Hi - I believe the name of the resort is Oak Meadows and they are located on Upper Dwyer Hill road. I've heard great things about them but I haven't lived in the Ottawa region for awhile so I hope my memory regarding the name isn't letting me down.
Good luck!
Maureen

Thank you for the info Maureen!
You were right about the name (Oak Meadows Pet resort) and street. They take dogs and cats. Gave the name and information to DM so she can check it out!
Will post about the choice and experience later on!

Hi there - without a doubt - Eastway Kennels in Navan. I am quite picky about where I take my dogs after a few bad experiences and I absolutely love this place. They take fantastic care of pets and you never feel like they've been neglected. They go the extra mile. I would not hesitate at all to recommend them to you. They have a web site that you could find through Google. Hey our dogs will be there in November while we're at WDW so maybe they can make friends with your mom's dogs
:p

Thanks a lot IMK! Did see the website and it looked like a good place so gave the name to DM. Eastway kennels is now DM's list of places to check. It's great to have another recommendation! Should DM choose the dog (and cat) at Eatway, it will certainly meet yours as we will be at WDW on Nov 6-13 and looks like you'll be leaving on the 7 or 8th!
This weekend DM has been seriously considering another option. To have the dog (ie the little monster) trained as well...only problem is the place she found takes the dog for 4 weeks! and DM is freaking at the prospect as well as the money question! :faint: (might be cheaper to bring the dog to WDW:teeth: ).
Will keep you updated on the choice! Thanks again!
PS where will you be staying at WDW?

Hello! If she's looking for training - K9 concepts are terrific. She can talk to Cindy- she turned our little monsters into (almost) angels. I believe they do boarding/training. They also have a web site. Good luck! P.S. Eastway Kennels do very nice grooming too if she's looking for that.

p.s. we'll actually be dropping the dogs off on the 6th so maybe we'll even meet your mom!! What kind of pets does she have - I'll keep my eye out if she does decide to board them there!

Well what do you know! Another recommendation from you! The place she's looking at is in fact K-9 concepts! Did you leave yours or did you attend classes with the dogs?
The dog and cat would be dropped off on the 5th as we are leaving Saturday morning! The dog's name is Talie and she's a border collie! And she's totally nuts!!!
Thanks a lot!

hehe - well as a parent of nutty dogs myself I can relate. We had the dogs trained in our home when I was pregnant to try and "baby-proof" them. Cindy did wonders - if food falls on the floor and we say "Leave It" they won't go near it until we tell them to. Never thought I'd see the day. Cindy is amazing. You can tell her Lesia referred you. Let me know if Talie ends up at Eastway - I usually bring the dogs into their cages myself so I will say hello!

another p.s. - where are you staying in WDW?? We are likely to cross paths.

My vote as well goes to Eastway Kennels! We have used them for about 4 years now and we board our dog several weeks a year. The place is very clean and it is well run. The first time they took my dog they actually brought her into the house with them for awhile because she was 12 and it was her first time in a kennel (broke my heart!). She was pretty nervous but they are very kind. Our dog always comes home with a little extra weight on her so we know she must be enjoying herself! I have not heard a bad thing about them and know several people who have taken their animals there.

Geeeez! The board unlogged me as I was posting my reply... so what was I saying now...
IMK, We'll be staying at POR (hopefully Magnolia Bend) Nov6-13. Where will you be?
Thanks for the second vote for Eastway Pixiedust!
I'll will let you know what happens! Know my DM was going to see kennels today and Eastway was on the list (as well as Oak Meadows)! Tomorrow she's suppose to go to K-9 ...wouldn't surprise me if she ends up choosing them as she's been having more problems with Talie lately. Specially that she got positive feedback on the place, thanks to you IMK!
Will update once I get news!

Well she has yet to go see the kennels but she did go and meet with people at K-9. By the way IMK it's the one on the Quebec side (near Val-des-Monts I believe) so she won't be having Cindy. Think they have 3 places altogether (2 in Ottawa and 1 on the Quebec side)! She liked the place and was reassured about the place and the handler...she was afraid that they would "brake" the dog into obeying! I got the feeling that she'll probably be going for the 4 week training! Somehow the 8 week course doesn't appeal to her! She wants the little beast allready trained!!!:teeth: and they have a video of the training and signals, they have follow-ups and help should you ever have problems... it's sorta of an all inclusive!!!!:p
She had another training place contact her after more than a week. She had made long distance calls to them and had gone there, it was closed (she got lost!) and had left a written message(don't know the name but think it's near Carp). They are asking 1500$ Let's just say that K-9's 950$ seems a lot more appealing now! And DM likes the idea of getting a little breathing time to do some stuff alone like staying in my apartment in Montreal (of course when I'm busting my butt working in Ottawa)!!!!! ;)
She's going to see a few kennels today and Eastway is definitely on her list.
I will be posting her choice and also the kennels she went to see and her feeling/opinion of the places! And should she choose K-9 I'll also give news as to the effectiveness of the training...for those of you out there who might be considering it and are wanting information!

She did go to see kennels and has Eastway was her 1st stop she didn't go any further. She really liked the place and the feeling she got from the people. She booked it for the dog, the cat and the bird! But....she's still hesitating and thinking about the 4 week training...time is closing in...a final decision is on the way!

Glad you were well received at Eastway. I don't think you would be disappointed there, however; having training at the same time is a whole different thing! Tough decision, I would imagine.
