Anyone keeping up with the Casey Anthony case?

yeah - they didn't pay the mortgage....would love them to try and sue BOA...they don't have the money.

I assume they are not making the mortgage payments so they can have as much money as possible to pay for their daughters defense lawyers.

In the reports I noticed that they stopped making payments in June, the exact same month Caylee went missing (but who wasn't reported missing until July). I would love to know if skipping the June payment was already in the works or.....just another weird thing to think about....

Also, as a local, I wanted to add that if Casey needs taxpayer money for her defense, I think a public defender should fill the bill quite nicely. I'm afraid my pocketbook can't handle her expensive legal team

So interesting what is now being said about Grand Dad George.....hummmmm.

All I know is it's horrible to think abut that poor baby:sad1:

I do think the whole affair thing is true, I don't think (or hope) that is the smoking gun.

What affair???

The news shows have been reporting that Grandpa had a year long affair with someone that came out to help search......
The sister of the woman that he had an affair with was on all the talk shows yesterday & they have records showing Grandpa George coming in & out of her gated community as well as text messages (almost daily) & many calls.

The woman stated that Grandpa George said the baby's death was an accident....

So very sad.

I don't think you or any other Floridian should have to pay for her defense. If she has no money she should have to get a public defender just like anyone else. I also think she should be in the general population.

You forgot that the women he had the affair with passed a police administered lie detector test.

Was that 2008 or 2009. I thought it was later, but I guess not.

IMHO--your entire financial history should be looked at when you cry foul on foreclosure. I'm quite sick of people claiming hardships but enjoying frivolous expensive things like cruises...and though not so expensive--quite intense tattoos and "search" boats.:sad2:

I can certainly empathize with their INITIAL job issues of not being able to work--but hello, they aren't the first nor the last people that have been victims of anything and I'm not buying the...."noone will hire George defense". Translation: You can't pay for your home b/c you have no job and if you cannot pay, you have no home. Case closed.

Well, if what she said is true--that George said something....

Then it isn't a lie.

It doesn't mean that George is lying or being truthful. But from her standpoint, it is true. George said something....

Did not know about the affair.

I am watching HLN, they are saying she doesn't want money for the lawyers, that it is for investigating and expert witnesses since it is a death penalty case. I can't believe it will be another year before the trial .

Defense attorney Chaney Mason has joined Casey's defense team. He will take her case on pro bono because he does not believe in the death penalty. This is a really big deal. Chaney Mason has an incredible record as a defense attorney.

All funds obtained from the state will be used to pay for things such as expert testimony. The money from the state will not pay for her defense team.

Correct me if I am wrong--

Just b/c prosecution is seeking death penalty, it doesn't mean she'll get a not guilty verdict. It also doesn't meant that just b/c he's on it--doesn't mean he believes in her innocence.

But I could be mistaken.

The more experts she has, the better.

I'd rather a guilty plea stick than to have such trials and tribulations on appeal.

If they pull out all the stops now--there really isn't much extra they can do later.

this is not good.

What's not good?

I notice this part from WKMG:

A judge asked Casey Anthony's defense to explain how their attorney's fees have been spent until this point before ruling on her indigency.

IMAGES: Hearing | Casey, Caylee | Evidence
Orange County Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland presided over Wednesday's hearing. He asked the defense to provide an itemized list by Friday detailing how they have spent the more than $100,000 Anthony has already paid in fees.

Strickland said he will decide if the state should pay for Anthony's defense costs after reviewing the list.

I'm a bit confused.

But I'm not really worried.

My whole philosophy from the beginning is to make sure the case is airtight--so I'm not bothered if they want to bring in all the experts to refute evidence.

The jury--has to believe them to be able to doubt the credibility of the prosecution.

And I wish they'd stop showing freeze frames of her smug smiles. They are nauseating.

if the defense attny who is taking it on pro bono is that good of an attorney.

He is highly respected in the Orlando community.

Baez is such a doofus - I can't believe he admitted in court he didn't keep track of expenses - what lawyer doesn't keep track of expenses??? He just didn't want to tell where that money went.

I hope they don't rule in favor of tax payers paying for the defenses' experts, etc.

Baez recied $200,000 from ABC (Casey selling) and $5k from an anonomous donor, $70k from Todd Macaluso...geez.

and the sealed evidence is letters she wrote to another inmate. no confession in them though. I was hoping for more.

ETA - this is posted on another site.

Here's my understanding of a few things being discussed:
The money:
$200,000 - from ABC
5,000 - from an unnamed donor
70,000 - donated from former defense team attorney Todd Macaluso
70,000 - from Lyon's law clinic (a charity that solicits donations). Andrea stated the $22,000 listed in the affidavit came out of this $70,000. So, that is a total of $345,000. The affidavit listed $111,000 as being spent. Baez was asked about the difference and he hemmed and hawwed and said it went to expenses like investigation, travel, transcripts. He is supposed to provide an accounting to the court, but I did not hear a time limit given to do that.

The secret evidence:
SA said they are done investigating and it has already been released to the defense.
The judge gave Baez 15 days to review the material before it is released to the public. Baez can they file a motion to have it sealed if he so wishes but he must inform the media because they have the right to argue for its release.

-

So Baez didn't even report the full amount in teh affidavit!
