Anyone just wear reading glasses?

Thanks everyone for your responses.

I didn't think they came lower than a 1. I know nothing about glasses. I will bring a newspaper or book with me. No wonder when I looked around Target I felt dizzy. Yeah - I can't believe I have to wear them either. :scared:
You really can't look "around" with reading glasses. You need to look at something up close. They will blur your distance vision which is why some people put them on the end of their nose and look over them for distance.

I wear a 1.75 but my distance vision is 20/20

I have to use a 10X loupe to read most print and music. It took a lot of getting used to, but I did it.

Anything like that will be an adjustment.

I just had an eye exam and alas my eyes need a little help. Doctor said I need a 1 in reading glasses. I went to the dollar store and bought a pair and everything didn't look right. I felt like I had huge magnifying glasses on. Doctor said try Target or Wal Mart. They had reading glasses for about $20. I tried both places and they too didn't seem right. Luckily I didn't buy them I just tried them on in the store.

Any advice? Do I just have to get used to them? Doctor said I could get a pair made but he thought that would just be a waste of money. What do you guys think?:)

I wore the "cheaters" (drug store reading glasses) for years, but my husband, who wears glasses, finally convinced me to get a pair from the eye doctor — and what a difference! I love my prescription glasses, but still have a lot of the cheaters lying around the house and use them occasionally; the prescription glasses are soooo much better. The problem is that most people need a different magnification for each eye, and many have astigmatism, and the prescription lenses correct for that. If you've got vision insurance, go get a pair of prescription reading glasses. You won't have any of the awkward vision you're describing.

Sometimes I wish I had bifocals and just had to wear them all the time.

you can get bifocals with non-prescription lenses in the distance part. we make them at work all the time. just tell your doctor that you want plano bifocals.

I had to break down and buy reading glasses last summer when I started scrapbooking, then I noticed that it was much easier to read magazines! I got my first ones at the Dollar Tree, rimless 1.0 and they were rectangular. Much easier to look up over the top to grab something off the scrapbook table and then be able to look down again at what I was cutting and gluing.
Alas, these glasses broke last week. The ones from Target stink.

I found some new ones at Michael's and they had great frames! Leopard, stripes, colors, rhinestones. $2.99 and I got 1.25, which was the lowest they had. They work fine for close up work, but no, you can't see in them to walk around.

I felt really old about needing them (at 41) until I looked around at bible study this week and realized about half of us had to put them on!

I have these. I got tired of taking my glasses on and off at school so the Dr make a pair of progressives with a non prescription upper portion.

You're right. The chart by the display I can read fine but those darn medicine bottles. They sure do make the print smaller and smaller.

I thought they were getting smaller and smaller too until my 13 year old commented it was my eyes not the medicine bottle. Kinda like when my jeans must of shrunk after Christmas:laughing:

This is an interesting thread because I am thinking I need reading glasses too but I dreaded going to the doc. I think I will check out the low ones at Wegmans.

I had the same problem. Drug store reading glasses worked great for reading but if you tried to look up you get dizzy. Had my eyes checked and Dr. said prescription glasses would make a difference. Do they ever!!! They are much crisper and you can read great but still look up and see fine. I actually forget I have them on sometimes when I put my book down and wear them for awhile.

A pp mentioned zennioptical.com which is where I bought both of my pairs. They are both very stylish and were $8 a pair. Hubby has very bad eyes and needed new glasses but since he wears contacts and only uses his glasses a few times a month, I really couldn't stomach paying several hundred dollars for them. He got a REALLY nice pair for around $20. My son who is 19 and too cool for his own good :snooty: also got a few pairs for $8 to $12 apiece and loves them.

I have several pairs of the cheater glasses lying around, but I'll search the whole house for a prescription pair before using those. Makes that big of a difference.;)

Sorry, just realized this thread is a few months old. Hope the info helps anyway.
