Anyone involved in mortgages?

Once I move out from SO, I hate the thought of paying the same price in rent as that of a mortgage. But, as a teacher (most likely- YUCK) I will not be making tons. I do have a down payment saved.

I have heard that there might be special programs out there for teachers. But, from no one that would really know. So, just curious..... might there be special programs for teachers?

My DH works for a school system and is part of the NEA..
National Education Association. Not sure if you are part of that where you are, but check out their website.
They have special things for cell phones, mortgages as well as other things.
