I'm looking for info on this area. I have a friend who is moving there and I told her I'd see if I have any "friends" already there. :)

So if you live in Wilmington (new Castle country) and southern Chester County PA........let me know.

What area is best? schools? housing prices? great for kids? Where to stay away from?

Thanks...........:p

I am in North Wilmington which is in New Castle County and absolutely love it here. Our DD15 is in an excellent public school district and DD10 goes to a private school. North Wilmington is very nice, but the house prices have really skyrocketed in the last 5 years. If I were buying a house now, I'd keep in mind that many parts of New Castle (the city) are not great and I don't hear anything very positive about the schools. Tell your friend to keep in mind that there is NO SALES TAX in Delaware and property taxes are very low, compared to places like NJ.

I am sorry I don't know anything about Chester County, though we are 1/2 mile away from the PA border.

I live in NJ but work in Wilmington. Is your friends job in Wilmington proper? Wilmington is a really liveable area. Most of my co workers live in North Wilmington area, across the border in PA, or in Pikes Creek/Hockessin Delware area. The majority of them send their kids to private schools. These are very good schools with good reputations. The people who live in PA are more likely to use public schools. They tend to live in Unionville or Chads Ford which are both in Chester County. As previously posted there are major differences in the tax strutures that. In Delware the taxes are lower but some of the school districts are not as good. In PA some of the public schools are really really good. If you do a search for the Philadelphia Inquirer they do an annual report on the schools which I think is on line. Philadephia magazine has an annual "best places to live in the Delaware Valley" guide that might be a good reference tool as well.

If the job is actually in Chester County, there are many new developments with beautiful houses that are in the West Chester area. Depending on her income have her look at Toll Brother's website for some of their developments. They are on the very high end. Hovnavian and Pulte build alot in the middle ranges. There are also so older communities which have a nice feel (stone houses, mature trees etc.).

Thank you both for your replies. I e-mailed your responses to my friend. She said thank you and to "keep the info coming", so if anyone else can help.........:)
