I would like roman shades in my gameroom upstairs that look/work like this:

MIL offered to make us window coverings, and I am still hunting for the fabric I want, but I don't want to ask her to make something that is super hard or time consuming. She's quite good at sewing, from what little I know about it, and she has a nice machine but I still don't want to take advantage of her by requesting something difficult.

Thanks!

I made some for my neice and they are really easy. You can get the ribbon like "tape" with the curtain hoops sewn on already and that makes it easier than measuring the distance yourself.
I found a site on the internet with directions for making them, just look up "making your own roman shades".
All I had to do was measure the fabric, sew them with a lining, then sew on the ribbon tape, and put the twine into the hoops. My brother cut a piece of 2X4 to put them on and he hung them onto the window. Mine are larger than the width of the window like curtains but some are made to fit into the window like shades.

They aren't tough at all.. If you want a simple pattern, Simplicity is the way to go, and they are usually on sale at Walmart. They have the easiest instructions to follow by far. You can buy the premade loop tape at Joann, Hancocks, or any fabric store. Good luck!

Thank you both so much! Now I can hunt for a great pattern and fabric and not feel so guilty asking her to make them for me =)
