So any DIS'ers independently wealthy? Meaning you don't have to work anymore. Maybe you invested wisely, married an oil tycoon, were born into wealth, or won the lotto. Just wondering how the other half (or more likely the other 1/10) live! Would anyone know you were loaded just by looking at you? What do you fill your time up with if you don't work? Thanks!

I dont think anyone would actually own up to being rich, its a private thing

its a different question

Most "rich" people don't want to advertise themselves, for a lot of good reasons. Not that your question is a bad one, I'm curious myself! Just don't look to get many answers!

I don't know anyone that is that wealthy, but I've heard that they often still work or volunteer alot, just to keep busy. It isn't "work" when you don't need the paycheck, afterall!

I can't own up to being rich. Wish I could!

...if I was I highly doubt I'd be DISing...sitting on a beach somewhere with a drink in my hand would be more like it ;)

TOuche'! Boy...you guys make it sound like being wealthy is a blight! BTW, if I myself were independently wealthy I would likely still post on the DIS. Maybe I should've asked YOU guys what you would do with your time if you were well off enough to not have to work.

I'm H. E. Pennypacker. Wealthy industrialist, philanthropist and... uhh... bicyclist.

I am - I type this to you on my diamond studded keyboard, as I sit on a Greek Isle beach. I recently decided to stay here after my year in Bora Bora. Bora Bora was boring - the tiki huts are SO last year. :bitelip:

I actually got my millions by just being me. People would be impressed by my good looks and winning personality and just shower me with gifts, money, you-name-it. :confused3

I dont volunteer. Why should I have to do anything, but be me?? :teeth:

And dont bother adding my name to tha PATHOLOGICAL LIAR thread - cuz what I tell you is all true. :rolleyes1

I do remember seeing somewhere a mention of someone who had to pay something like $100K in federal taxes....I'm pretty sure you have to be pretty wealthy to pay that much. Maybe not a millionaire, but very comfortable at least!

Just my thoughts, I don't think having a million guarantees that someone doesn't need to work. If that million is tied up in their home or something of that sorts, it isn't as though you have an income coming in. Also, I believe in the principles of The Millionare Next Door where most millionares are hard working people and that you wouldn't know them if you saw them. Where I work, there are a lot of people that come in with big projects on the line...it seems that the truely weathly people look the poorest by the way they are dressed and how they act. The guys that come in dressed really well and driving the Lexus are usually the guys that borrowed money and are waaaayyyyy over-extended...no real wealth, just a nice show ;)

My $0.02!

I just don't think anyone is going to come out and say something that personal on a public forum. It just not something you want 10k people to know.
I would still DIS no matter if I worked or won lotto. I would still be going to WDW...therefor would have to DIS :earboy2:

Nah, paying 100K in Federal taxes would not necessarily make someone independently wealthy. It could simply mean that they took a retirement buyout, cashed in some stock options...that kind of thing.

We do know a few people who are certainly wealthy enough to retire at a fairly young age...but they still work. They're just highly motivated and very driven people.

oh I dont know about people not answering... Ive seen several people on here who would have us to believe they fit into the OPs category

<--Not rich!

If everyone here posts who is not rich, it maybe one of the longest threads ever! :rotfl2:

A memebr of my close family is technically a millionaire..but he's retired anyway and hates to spend a dime on ANYTHING.
He has all his money because he had a great job and is very frugal.
Now he complains about any bills he has like taxes because as he tells us, he has no more money coming in and it's hard to live off social security.
I try telling him that he scrimped and saved his whole life so that he could enjoy his golden years(he's 78), but he can't get out of that mindset.

He's adorable, but he's cheap! He gave me a giant Christmas ornament with a candle inside for CHristmas. :rotfl:

He hates buying anything, if you saw him, you'd think, oh look at that poor guy, I bet he's one of those people who have to decide between buying their prescriptions and food for the month.
But you know what? He's happy not spending money and that's all that matters.

My husband rold me if we ever won the lottery he'd quit his job and become a full time volunteer firefighter. LOL Our town has a partial paid, but mostly volunteer staff, and he would just donate his services to the town free of charge.

ME, ME, ME!! I am. I'm rich. And good-looking too. And a great cook. And...oh darn, I just woke up. Sorry I was day dreaming. Really I'm none of the above. Oh well! :sunny:

I'm not wealthy, but I'm doing OK. Not a millionaire by any means. However being a millionaire is not nearly so exclusive a club anymore. I bet that I know at least 15 of them personally. But then again, I work in TV, in Philly, so most of the TV anchors are making $175,000 a year minumum, and some a whole lot more.

I'm friends with a WEATHER guy who makes almost 500K a year, and has for about 5 years.

Ya know what? A lot of these TV millionaires can barely put a coherent thought of their own together. But they look good reading a teleprompter.

That all said.... given time I WILL be a millionaire. I work 1 FT job, own a DJ business, and have other side "businesses". I invest as much as I possibly can, and I never miss my monthly investment goals.

So, hard work and dedication to being well off, will pay off.

::yes:: :rotfl: Every person I've ever known IRL that had money never bragged about it, so I always think the biggest braggers on the net are the biggest liars. ;)

Oh god no...having a million dollars in the bank doesn't mean that you won't have to work...well, unless you are relatively happy with your lifestyle making say 25K a year forever and ever.

Not everyone driving a Lexus in a McMansion is over-extended, but I agree, many are. We are a nation who has overextended our collective credit limit. First time since The Great Depression that we as a nation have actually spent more than we have made. To me, looking around, well, it sure doesn't look like it did back in the early 30s with 25% unemployment, food lines, shanty towns and banks closing left and right. I see a whole lot of monster-sized homes, more luxury cars than I care to count....on and on.

Big difference....most of us are spending nearly every penny we make and then some. All of this *will* catch up to us...as a nation and individually. All that we can do is control whatever we can individually. So that's what we do.

As I said, we do know some people who are quite wealthy and continue to work...they all own their own businesses. We know some executive types who have healthy six figure incomes and seven figure retirement funds, but not enough to stop and continue to live a nice lifestyle (or one that they are accustomed to) in retirement.

Not rich, not wealthy, not well off, we are average for our age.
