Just curious if others on here don't really excercise. I get some walking in, (to bus, errands, etc.) but not "walking". So I wanted to know if others here still have success without the excercise and if people who didnt excercise and then started noticed a much bigger drop faster?

I just completed my first week of exercise (yoga 4 times a week and 20 minutes on the treadmill 3 taw). Before that I never exercised on a regular basis, I still managed to lose 20 pounds in 3 months. This week I've lost 3.5 pounds, that's more than I've lost any other week, so I'm giving exercise a try (although I REALLY don't like the walking). :)

Exercise??? We're supposed to exercise?? :crazy2:

Not yet...although I no longer circle the parking lot at Wal-Mart 20 times looking for the closest spot since the walking is good for me. That's my first step.

I'm sure I could have lost quite a bit more had I only exercised
the problem is finding motivation
I am setting my goal very low hoping to get out and walk once a week for 30 min
I have been meeting this goal for a month now
going to bump it up to 2x week at least 30 min
I am also doing some sit ups on ab machine occassionally and arm exercises

I don't enjoy exercising and don't really find it all that enjoyable
but I know if I want to lose 100lbs I am going to have to embrace exercise

I have been on the beach for 3 months and will weigh in tomorrow and should be around 28-30 lbs lost - not bad (patting her own back). But I really think that is because I had so much to lose.

Good luck with losing weight and trying to find the motivation to exercise

I do excercise, almost obessively now! It wasn't always that way though....I just began to FEEL much better with regular heart-pumping activity.....IMO, finding an exercise that you LIKE is the hardest part! But there are so many options.....walking, biking, swimming, water fitness classes (if you can get past the thought of putting on a bathing suit.... )

I'd urge you to try various things....my *key* was finding a place that I enjoyed, with classes at fixed times, so I HAD to get there...since I had paid for it and all.....

I didn't at the beginning and did loose. I did hit a plateau though and exercising got it moving again. I am now 2.5 pounds away from my WW goal!

Once you start exercising it really helps. Back in January, a few of us who chat on Monday night posted on a committment thread. That really helped being accountable and thats what got me started. Now its April, and I exercise 5-6 times a week and have never felt better. I even hate taking rest days now. I also started exercising in the morning and I feel so good that I now enjoy getting up early to exercise. I was not a morning person, but can't imagine not doing it now. I feel so great now when I go to work knowing I worked out and its completed for the day.

We could start a committment thread again? PM me if youre interested. You committ to what you can do. It may be one thing a week you work on. Like adding water one week. exercising one day a week or whatever you need. It really helps motivate you though!

I don't exercise - never have in my life. I'd LIKE to, but just can't bring myself to DO IT! I hate the way I feel - the muscles burning, the tired feeling, the sweat (I HATE to feel even remotely "sweaty"). I know I need to do it because of my health. Plus, if I exercised I would be able to maintain my weight easier without having to severely limit my carb intake :)

I always shake my head when people say they LIKE how they feel when exercising. I don't get that.....I always feel sort of sick

STARTING is the hardest part of exercising. And finding something that you like is just as hard. I'm probably not alone on this board when i say that i had false starts of exercising for years, b4 finally finding Pilates and really building up a habit of exercising like i am right now. I honestly can't remember the last time i exercised so much for so long.

The key is finding something gentle that makes you feel good to give you motivation. Then as you keep that habit, you will eventually find the desire to try new and harder exercises. Pilates is very gentle with the body. It may not feel like you're working your abs at all, but you really are working them well. I didn't sweat afterwards, didn't lose my breath. I felt nice and even when i was done. And i wasn't sore the next day.

PPL may tell you start off with weights, but frankly i did that b4, and dropped it without a second thought. That was a few years ago.

But start slow, and look around. try stuff. Eventually you'll find the thing that keeps you motivated.

I'm not I WISHer. I just lurk here. But I must say, you guys are really an inspiration - even for someone not actively trying to lose weight.

I HATE to exercise. But I do it because I have found that it's the easiest way to maintain my weight. When I run three or more times a week, I can eat anything I want. If I exercise less than that, I've either got to watch portions/types of food, or watch the weight come on. On any given day, I can think of a million other things I should or would rather be doing other than working out. I go to the gym kicking and screaming (in my mind) - but AFTER working out I feel soooo good. I really believe that weight loss won't stick unless there's a lifestyle change that includes exercise.

I should start this by saying - I have tried every way possible to get out of exercise :teeth: Even now there are days where I have to really push myself to get out and do it! I don't know that I will ever be one of those people who can say they "love" exercising but I do "love" how it makes my body feel - strong, pushed to the limit and still ok, not to mention the fact that you feel so good when you are done. ::yes:: I have read lots of articles about exercise hoping to find one that said you didn't need to do it. :) I haven't yet found one that said that but have found tons of things that back up the basic facts - you WILL lose weight faster, your body will become more toned as you are losing (less excess skin when you are finished if you have lots to lose), the studies all say you are much more likely to KEEP the weight off if you exercise. That's the most important for me I guess because I don't want to go down this road again - EVER! For me it has helped to focus on a goal. I have decided I want to run a 5K in November and began the Couch to 5K program to get myself there. It's a very gradual program which incorporates a little more running each week until you are up to a 5K. It really pushes me hard but it's also only 3 days a week so it's managable. I keep telling myself - "I won't have to do this tomorrow." I think, as others have mentioned, the most important thing is to find something you enjoy and go from there!

I started off exercising here and there. Trying to commit to walking every day. Winter came and exercising left. I still lost weight, slowly, very slowly because I upped my water and drank diet soda instead of regular soda. I started to do Pilates and loved it. It's made me feel stronger mentally and physically. I'm starting to walk again, here and there, but I'm commited to Pilates and Yoga.

So my advice, try to find an exercise that you like. Walking, pilates, yoga, tennis, swimming or for fun Disney's Dance Dance Revolution (it's a kids playstation game that's like aerobics!) Just move more, and you'll be healthier!

Good luck~:wave2:

I am so BAD about exercising. I'm just lazy. I really need to force myself to do my WATP.

Maybe it's because I'm at a plateau that I've developed a 'what's the use' attitude towards excercise.:sad2:

The only time I have to put forth the effort is after dinner at night. I've done an hour on my treadmill almost each night while watching TV, and the scales are not moving.

From what I've read on the WW msg boards, I'm not really burning much as I'm not walking fast enough, or using the incline fast enough! I'm sure they're right, but my major problem is when I workout that intense, not only does it exhaust me, but I'm starving to death. And just snack on some veggies? Yeah, right!

I don't normally have a negative attitude, but I did lose before when I walked one half hour (through my neighborhood) three times per week, and I think I'll go back to that.

I too hate exercising. It's not the moving part. I like the way I feel when I exercise, but I HATE to sweat!!!!! If I could exercise whenever I wanted to without sweating I think I would do it all the time. But if I want to exercise for just an hour it involves then taking a shower (half hour), doing my hair (20 minutes), makeup (15 minutes), lotioning my entire body because I have super dry skin and will itch without lotion (10 minutes) and then some. This little exercise is over a two hour commitent. Blah. I HATE it SOOOOOOOOOO much!!! I will do it, but I'd much rather starve myself to death than exercise. Also, another thing that is frustrating about exercising, is you don't see the results for weeks. When I work out I want to see the results tommorrow. Forget that, I want to see them today!! Not four weeks from now. When I start working out I actually gain weight, which is even MORE frustrating!!!! Here I am doing something I hate and it is having the opposite results. I know I just have to wait, but it's SOOOOOOO hard!!!!!:crazy2:

I stopped working out due to an incisional hernia, but I'm walking everywhere. I no longer drive to work - I take public transportation, which adds in almost 2 miles of walking per day. No more lifting, no more curves. I'm still losing, though.
