Anyone here have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)?

I haven't heard about the vitamin D helping. I just know the sun helps and I get very sluggish when it is cloudy for days on end. I get very ugly thoughts if not on the AD's though. At lest with them, i just get a little gloomy.
I will look into the Vitamin D though.

The sun gives you vitamin D so it makes sense that vitamin D supplements will help.

That's exactly what my doctor told me. We didn't hear about this problem years ago because we weren't slathering sunscreen to prevent skin cancer. You want to protect your skin, but by doing so, you can mess yourself up emotionally! Thank goodness for supplements.

I was told about 10-20 minutes of sun exposure per day is a good idea but if you're already D deficient and/or live in a cloudy part of the country like me, you're going to keep running on empty unless you add a supplement. Or move to Florida :thumbsup2

I thought I had SAD for years and finally talked to my doctor about it. She checked my vitamin D levels and they were almost nonexistent. I now take a prescription for vitamin D and feel like a completely different person.

I could have written this as well - my endocrinologist finding my low level of Vitamin D and prescribing more, totally changed how I feel. I never realized until then how important Vitamin D was to mood swings, weight gain, depression...as well as bone density and general metabolism and well-being. Doctors should really check it more often.

I have been hearing more lately about the D deficiency. I figured we were ok. I looked an I get 1200 IU per day in supplements. Maybe that isn't enough. It also isn't in the D3 form.

But, we live in NE Ohio, a very cloudy area.
