I just cancelled my dial-up AOL service because I got cable. I know a lot of people hate AOL, but I have never had any problem with it. My only complaints have been having dial-up service. When I cancelled AOL, they tried to sell me their broadband service to go with my cable service. They told me that they were partnered with my cable company and by keeping my AOL account, my cable company woud reduce my rate by $14.95. It would then be a net increase to me of $9.95 per month to add the AOL. Is there any reason WHY I would want to do this. I know that AOL has a wonderful pop-up and spam blocker. And I know I get added firewall protection. Just wondering who has this.

My cable company DOESN'T partner w/ AOL and I pay the $14.95 a month for AOL Bring Your Own Access.

We've had our AOL account forever and wouldn't dream of giving up those email addresses. Also, I use their McAfee virus protection program, in addition to the usual spam filters and pop-up stoppers they have.

Also I have 2 teenagers in the house. The AOL Parental Controls on their email allow me to only permit email from known people that I add to their list. Yes, I know they could get around this by starting another email account on Yahoo or Hotmail, but they are content to leave it this way.

Gave up AOL many years ago after cable was installed. prior to Conversion, sent out note notifying of E-Mail address change. Downloaded instant messenger and kissed AOL goodbye. AOL is like Microsoft as long as you have a $1 in your pocket, they want it. Save the money and see what your cable provider gives you with their service. AOL free for five years and loving it.

I have comcast and AOL! I was going to drop AOL but realized that it was just much easier for navigation than comcast(hate how comcast handles email). Plus there are alot of sites that are specific to aol that I enjoy. After calling to cancel aol I ended up keeping it for $7.95/month. Not a bad deal!!

I was feeling the same way about the mail. I just figured I was too much of an AOL "princess." I love AOL mail and the Comcast mail is just, blah. Well, I have until the 20th of Sept. to figure out what to do.
